Just looking for thoughts. I don't know what to try next with DD2, who turned 3 in December. I have always been one to try to wait until they are ready, and not push it, and it worked great with my other two b/c they were PT mostly by about 2.5. Also for the older two kids, we switched to underpants after they were keeping the pull-up dry all day, and I had planned to do the same. With DD3, it's been very frustrating.
After months of on and off general potty promotion and encouragement with very little result, a couple weeks ago she finally started staying mostly dry during the day. Still really hit or miss, but she was actually telling me she needed to go and doing fairly well. Still NOT AT ALL willing to poop on the potty. In the last few days, she totally backslid. She started just going in her pull-up all the time. When I tell her it's potty time, she resists. Yesterday she SCREAMED "nooooooooooo!!!" when I suggested potty time and I immaturely said something like, "Fine, then go in your stinky diaper!" obviously not my best parenting moment.
Last night, she peed on the potty for the first time all day in the middle of dinner. I put underpants on her for the rest of dinner until pajama time, b/c I thought maybe she would have to poop, and that maybe she would go on the potty and not in the underpants. I was pretty sure she would keep it dry. BUT, she totally peed in the hallway on the carpet.
I just don't know what to do with this. Is she just still really not ready?? Is this just b/c she turned three and is hitting a difficult stage (she has been much more opinionated and trying to be in charge over the last week or so--a new stage). I'm getting so frustrated. I have tried to be very positive and supportive and encouraging but I'm starting to get upset when she doesn't try AT ALL.
When I asked her the other day what she would do if she had to make poop and was wearing underpants, she said, "Hide in the corner where you can't see me and go in my diaper!" Ugh.
Also, I just made a reward chart with post-its to pull off to reveal rewards for being dry all morning, dry all afternoon, and for pooping on the potty. There are things she really wants, but it doesn't appear to be motivating her.
Sorry this is TL/DR. Don't know what to do about potty training.
