I could have here when their dad brings them back at 4:30? Originally, I was going to sidewalk chalk the drive and walkway with hearts and their names, but mother nature has thwarted me. So then I thought food coloring, but my dad said no, he worries about my stone walkway. I really don't want to do food because they brought home so much junk from school on Thursday that I still have here. I'm not crafty or creative. Store bought preferable. Balloons? They love them, but I have to tie them up because my main floor, bedrooms and all, is two stories, so we have to wait weeks or months if they float up.
Balloons sound fun! Maybe colored streamers around the house? Or what about big construction paper red and pink hearts on the door (with or without their names) for when they drive up? That's sort of like the sidewalk chalk idea.

We make giant banners out of the paper Home Depot sells for covering floors during construction. I use sidewalk chalk to write the banners, but if you don't want to go out, you can make a heart on the wall outside out of Christmas lights (just tape it up), if you have hardwoods, you can write on them with sidewalk chalk, it is pretty easy to clean up, you may need to wet the chalk a bit, depending on the floor finish. You could also make a pathway out of construction paper hearts to the kitchen, with a playdough cake. You can make playdough, if you don't have it, since you have food coloring. You could also make a snow heart, with food coloring for their names (use a Baggie with water and food coloring with a pin hole to drip the name)

Half the walk dried, so I chalked it up. Then I got red and white paper heart doileys and taped them to the door. Then put the two leftover ones at their places on the table with a lollipop bouquet for each of them. Simple and done!
