Well I've only got P for data here but she's basically had a snotty nose and cough since November. She's had a fever for a few days here and there, but the pedi says it's all normal the first year or 2 in daycare. She says to run the humidifer at night, keep her hydrated, and bring her in if the fever goes over 103.5 or lasts more than 3 days. If the fever ever hits 105, go to the ER.
She also commiserated as she has 2 young ones herself. She told me she once called a colleague (i.e. another doctor) crying because she was so stressed that her kids kept getting colds, and had to be reminded that it really is totally normal.
FWIW, I keep thinking about when she goes to kindergarten and she'll have a decent immune system by then! Missing daycare is a pain, missing school is potentially more impactful.
Nothing to add, but my kiddo is in the same boat. SO MUCH SNOT. But when her eyes get goopy it tends to signal an ear infection. We have the humidifier on every night to help with the coughing.
Sounds normal to me. DD (and all her little friends at daycare) had that crusty, constant runny nose thing for the first season at daycare. She also got it in her eyes that year (viral pink eye...nothing to do but wait it out). It got much better the next year. Hope it passes quickly for you.
We usually get about 3 days of healthy before the next cold starts. For the past four weekends we've spent at least one day with either a fever or barf.
Normal. This is the first winter (so #3) that she hasn't been sick almost constantly. Also she always seems to end up with a runny nose when a new kid transitions into class. I guess new germs from the other room?
DS (5 years old) has been in daycare since he was 9 months old. It totally sucked for a little while, but the good news is, it gets so much better! In fact, I get sick more often than he does, I swear he's a little carrier that brings germs home to me!

I almost NEVER get sick (outside of being pregnant) and I've had a stupid mild cold since she started too. They are little petri dishes of crap!
Be prepared to see some weird shit!
Hand foot and mouth went around his daycare. He didn't catch it, but somehow, my mom, who watched him two days a week, caught it. She has no other contact with small children and works from home. She had to have gotten it from him.
Also, DS had Fifth's Disease (I could only really tell by the low grade fever, red cheeks and a weird spiderweb rash). Around the same time, I had some crazy symptoms, and when I had a blood test for something unrelated, I tested positive for it, too (parvovirus, I think). It just presents differently in adults.

Agree 100%. My daughter is healthy for a week or two tops in the winter months. It's so draining, but definitely normal.
Normal. We're dealing with the same thing with DD2. DD1 is still getting colds after 3 years in daycare, but she tolerates them much better now. But DD2 has been a crusty-eyed mess since November.
