We rarely eat out, but I "treated" my mom to dinner at chick filet because the kids love the playground and it's relatively healthy. She was appalled that it came to $18. She thought it was expensive. I guess I would have been happy with that for three of us and she insisted on drinking water and splitting a sandwich with me so it really was only food for 3. So one adult meal (sandwich fries and drink) and two kids meals. No one starved. Is that spendy as far as fast food goes?
I don't think that is expensive for a fast food meal. My kids and I ate at Chickfila last night. It was $16 for One adult meal, one kids meal, and a 12 piece nuggets. DS eats the 12 nuggets and they share the fruit cup from DD's meal.
I don't think that's crazy, but it is sad that fast food isn't even really that cheap anymore. We usually spend $22 at Wendy's if we go there. But there's an awesome Vietnamese restaurant near us where we can get great food for $30, so we often just choose to spend the extra $10.
Sharing a sandwich is such a mom thing to do - my mom would be exactly the same!
I think it's on par but I agree it's super expensive. I remember the McDonald's meals (back when I was in high school) were under $5 each. They are like $7 or $8 now. For me to take my family out for fast food and spend $25 seems crazy. We have other options at that price point. And the times I do go to chik fil a with the kids I do sort of what a PP stated. I get one adult meal and one kids meal and both the kids and I share it.
Anyways are we seriously talking about going to chik fil a here? I remember once getting majorly flamed for taking my kids there on the bump. Eta: I'm just glad I don't have to keep our random chik fil a visits a total secret anymore lol

I remember that too. I take my kids to chick fil a.
Their play area is super clean and well maintained. When it's 100*+ out or raining it's a nice option

I was totally prepared to be flamed...I recall that thread just about everyone we go, which isn't often, but I still think about it love the memories here!

I don't think $16 is unreasonable to feed three people in any restaurant, fast food included. We go to CFA probably once a month for lunch and it's like $22, I think, for three kids meals and my meal. And no way am I splitting my sandwich or skipping the diet lemonade!
We eat there at least once a month. Name another fast food place that waits on you. It's awesome.
They are better than they were; but they were giving money to organizations actively working against marriage equality b/c they stand for "family values." It was/is a huge thing, not just on the SAHM board on TB but lots of places.

I get that. I can see not wanting to support them based upon some of the founders beliefs. As far as fast food goes though they are superior to most other options. I also assume most businesses make decisions or have beliefs different from mine.
I guess I do remember that debate now. I had forgotten about it. Pouches and dandelions stick in my mind still.
Well it's wasn't just about the founder's beliefs it was where they spent corporation money that was earmarked for donations. And I agree that lots of businesses support places/people/ideas that we don't agree with. But if it's something you're serious about, it makes sense to not patronize that business if you know. I'm not saying we need to research every business we patronize but if it comes up...
I agree that their food is better in many ways but that has nothing to do with not going there if you feel strongly about it.
And like I said, I think they changed their donation practices so it's not as big of a concern now. At the time, though, many people didn't get it and didn't care.

That sounds right to me. Fast food really isn't a bargain at all. It costs $25-30 to feed my family at McDonalds, which is the same as any other take out we get.
And the CFA debate is that the company donated to anti gay hate groups. I've never eaten there, but to be honest there isn't one anywhere near me that I know of, so I wasn't giving up a place I already liked when that information came out. Easy to boycott when you don't already go somewhere (they were all around me in PA, but I never went).
Last I heard the company stopped donating to those groups, so many people no longer boycott. Some stil boycott because the founder's family still donates, just as private citizens and not in the name of the business. Those still boycotting feel the end result is still the same, that by eating there you are supporting the groups. I don't have a strong opinion either way since I've never been there. My gut reaction is that I probably wouldn't go there if it opened near me. FWIW the campaign manager on the campaign I worked on last year loved CFA. He used to sneak it into the office and try to hide the bags because the Finance Manager gave him such a hard time about eating there. So it's not "just a nest thing."
The thing with CFA is it is a Mormon owned company so I think the lack of support for lgbt people is rooted in the religious beliefs of the founders of the company. I am extremely liberal and consider myself a fierce supporter of the lgbt community but it is also difficult for me as a supporter of free speech to critique someone's religious beliefs even if I completely disagree with them. Also, I am not convinced that anyone can know any and all beliefs/companies etc are supported by any particular business. That being said, the fact CFA backed down a bit is a good thing, I like their food, and I am also cool if someone doesn't want to go there. I'm all about love and let live!

I can respect someone's religious beliefs when they are held by the person. I can't respect them when they're donating money to make their private religious beliefs the law of the land, which was the aim of the bulk of their donations. It's not that they use the money to shun gay people who they once loved, but that they were funneling it to groups fighting the battle to keep gay marriage illegal based on the religious beliefs of some.
Chick fil a's founders and owners are southern baptist, not Mormon.
I know exactly where their beliefs come from and I have no interest in controlling what they believe. But donating directly from chick fil a to groups that were actively lobbying against marriage equality is completely different. The family research council and exodus international aren't your run of the mill conservative npos.

Ah I don't know why I thought it was Mormon, that totally makes sense! Thanks for the further info though, I truly was under the impression they were donating to your basic conservative pro family groups. Huh, good to know.

My FFFC is that I can't find a SINGLE thing that I like to eat on the Chick Fil A menu (other than fries, but I don't want to order fries). My kids will eat their food in order to get to go to the play place, but it's not their favorite either.

I just go and get waffle fries with ungodly amounts of chick fil a sauce for dipping just so my kids can use the play area.
I don't like their food, just the waffle fries in CFA sauce
