Another week down. This year is flying by.
What are you reading this weekend? Are you enjoying it? If not, why are you still reading it?
QOTW: If you're going to see one of your favorite authors at a book discussion/signing, would you: (1) bring your entire collection; (2) just one book; or (3) buy one or more duplicate copies of his books you already own at the small, independent bookstore hosting the event?
I'm reading Advent by James Treadwell. I like it though I'm more than halfway through and still not really sure where it's going. It's the first in a fantasy trilogy.
QOTW: I think I would choose my favorite to bring. I'd prefer to have a hardcover signed though, so I'd buy that if I didn't have it and it was available. Is this hypothetical or are you meeting an author, dorothyinAus ?

I've been reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara all week. It's really good, but also painful and traumatic, so I can't bring myself to use the word "enjoy."
QOTW: I'd probably buy a new hardcover just for the autograph.

I started the Silver Witch (Paula Brackston), but I've been distracted by too much TV this week so I've barely started it. (I think I've given up on the Zinn book, though I've left it on the end table so that it can mock me.)
QOTW: I have some autographed books by a favorite author (Tony Hillerman), and I always bought new. I was never comfortable bringing older, unsigned books to the signings.

I tried to RSVP to a reading by Jasper Fforde but it was already booked out. But then I was thinking about the process. I have already seen Jasper Fforde three times live and gotten several books signed. I bought them all the the bookstore there, but I was wondering what was the generally accepted thing to do.
I had been to other signings were it was required to buy the book there if you wanted to get it signed. And others where people brought in boxes and boxes of books to get signed by the author, which I thought was a bit much.
So part hypothetical, part wishing I could go to see an author.

I'm reading Guns, Germs and Steel. It's interesting so far, but I'm only as far as the prologue so I can't really say.
QOTW: If there is no policy, I'll buy either the author's most recent book or my favorite book to have signed. Sometimes though, I'll buy another copy but still have my copy signed, especially if the covers have been changed for a re-issue. But I will never leave the store without making a purchase, even if it's not that author's book.
I'm reading The Chaparone. I can't tell where it's heading and a few of the hints are confusing at this point, hope I can keep up. I think it will keep me interested.
Fudging the Books - a cozy mystery I kind of picked up randomly (and is the 4th in the series). It's OK.
Ready Player One - it's a lot different than I expected, but I'm enjoying it. Although I could do without the gamersplaining, which is annoying the hell out of me.
Are you enjoying it? If not, why are you still reading it?
I'm pretty hard core about not giving up on books. The number of books I've quit is less than 10, so it has to be either really boring or unredeemabley tedious for me to throw in the towel.

It would depend on the author, but it would probably be somewhere between 1 and 3.
For example,
If it's JK Rowling, I'm going to try to get all of my hardcover HP books signed, but I'd probably forget to grab Fantastic Beasts and Beedle Bard. But I wouldn't buy anything else to be signed from her.
Stephen King would get my tattered, well-read copies of The Eyes of the Dragon and Thinner to sign, but I'd also buy his latest book in the store.
God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. I'm not sure if I like it, honestly. It's a little confusing, with characters sort of dropped in with no introduction, and it's moving through time erratically, too.
QOTD: the only times I ever had a book signed, I bought it at the book store.
This week I finished The Girl on the Train, it was ok. I also read The Luckiest Girl Alive, which I did not like.
I started Ghost Gifts last night. I didn't read much, but so far, it's ok.
QOTW: I'd probably buy a new copy there.
I also read both of these, possibly back-to-back, about 2 months ago and I concur with your opinion. I found Ani to be not that likable.
I agree that Ani was not a likable character. I also felt that so much went unresolved- like there were too many topics in the story to tie up loose ends. I kept reading hoping the end would be good.
It was also not a good idea to read these books back to back. I found them both depressing.
