I have a tarte rainforest after dark palette that I adored when I first bought it. It's been hibernating for a couple months because I've been doing more matte eyeshadows.
Anyhow, last week I tried to use it and when I tried to layer Plum Away With Me, the dark plum color, it wouldn't stick. Like, I could pick it up on the brush, but when I went to apply it to my eye, it just stayed there on the brush. And if I pushed harder in an effort to get it to come off the brush, it basically rained plum eyeshadow onto my undereye (where it stuck like hell) but still would NOT stay on my eyelid. I thought that was weird, but maybe it was something in my application.
So this morning I tried again. Clean brush, clean eyelid (except primer), same effect. Is my palette borked? WTH is happening? Oh gurus, help me.
I wonder if a sponge type applicator would work better? That's so bizarre.
Maybe? The brush worked fine when I initially bought the palette. And it IS bizarre and frustrating. My tartelette palette is easily 6 months older (don't judge) and it still applies fine.
I've tried smudging it on with my finger and that's not working either, although it smudges well ONTO my finger. Would you use an old school eyeshadow applicator or the corner of a wedge sponge?

That's what I was thinking. I don't know how it won't apply but then will splatter? It's like your eyes are repelling it. Lol.

For the record, this is what it looks like when you're running late for work because part of your eyeshadow won't apply and subsequently forget to blend. At all. DERP.
ETA: I have since finger blended the best I can. But that first glance in the fluorescent-light mirror in the bathroom was horrifying and embarrassing.
Maybe look up some YouTube videos on hard pan. Since they've been sitting for awhile. I've had it happen with a bronzer and I could pick up powder on my brush but it wouldn't go onto my skin. Masking tape or just scraping off the top layer will fix it if that's the case.

I've got some hard pan issues in the tartelette palette but this one looks normal, especially since it's no problem to get it all powdered up. But I will try maybe brushing it with a paper towel (ETA: or a spoolie) a couple times to see if I can get the top layer off.
