I just got that email. It says now you get 2 stars for every $1 you spend. I realize now that I don't know what it was before...
All I know is one day I got a shiny gold Starbucks card in the mail (because I'm old-fashioned and use an actual card instead of my phone), so I felt all cool. Then I discovered that if you don't maintain that level for the year, you get bumped back down to green. So now I'm green again.

Currently you get one star per transaction.
Ahhh, that would explain my green level.
Maybe I'll have a chance at gold with the new system...
It's currently 1 star per transaction and you earn a free item after 12 stars. The new system is 2 stars per $1 and you earn a free item after 125 stars.
I know a lot of people complained that if they bought multiple items they still only got 1 star.
I feel like it's just going to work out the same though. But people will feel like they get more bang for their buck

Oh man, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean, I used to think it was annoying that I could buy a drink and food and maybe a gift card for a friend and it would only get me one star because it was one transaction (and you don't want to be the jerk who holds up the line so they can ring you up 3x), but 125 stars sounds like a LOT to get to one free item.

So I just read an article that does the math. If you typically spend $5 or less it will take you twice as long to earn a free reward.
We typically just buy two iced coffees which runs just under $5 and we earn 1-2 rewards a year

I think this will just make it more complicated. For instance: if you buy coffee in the grocery aisle and apply the star code, how many stars will that count for in the new system...? Also, bonus star deals will have to be "bigger and better."
