I didn't want to hijack the other post. What are typical wait times in an ER? The smaller hospital that I went to when I broke my leg was immediate, but when I was sent to a larger hospital, I waited in the ER for 4 hours with a broken leg.
I don't know, but that sounds HORRIBLE! Wow. I guess it depends on how busy they are and how severe they thing your injury is. We have only been to smaller ERs and we usually were seen pretty quickly. Either no one or hardly anyone else appeared to be waiting.

The one time I had to go with my seven week old, the total wait was for-damn-ever. They got me into a room pretty fast because it was a little baby, but once we were in there, the wait for each person and each thing took like 30-45 minutes, and we ended up being there from around 10pm - 4am.
I'm not sure. Every time we have gone to the ER it has been a "we need to see someone immediately" situation and we have gone right back. There's actually a sign on our main street that shows the current wait time at the ER.
The one I took my dad to recently we were in and out in about 3 hours, including lots of tests and the treatment they gave him. There were never more than 6 or 7 people in the waiting room.
A few year ago MIL went to a different ER with severe abdominal pain. They almost immediately suspected appendicitis but it was such a long wait that her appendix burst while she was in the waiting room waiting to be called back for more testing. In total, it was 5 hours from the time she walked in until her appendix burst.
The difference? The hospital I took my dad to is a smaller private hospital. The one MIL went to is a large county hospital. They serve very different clientele

When I took DS for croup, we were there about 3 hours, most of that waiting. When DD ate poisonous berries they were waiting for us and took us straight back. I've been in for myself for a broken foot, sprained ankle, and severe migraine. They put me in a room pretty quick for the migraine, but I waited a long time to be seen. And breaks and sprains you wait forever.

Head wound with bleeding (only stitches) immediately brought back. UTI with blood that crippled me over a holiday weekend, 4 hours. Plus I went to the ER on a Saturday night so lots of drunk injuries went first.

When DD needed stitches, we were in the ER at children's for 3 or 4 hours. I guess they have special sterile rooms for kids who only need stitches and aren't sick/otherwise injured. So it took forever.
Dh had a car accident and was seen immediately. It probably depends how serious it is.
