I have a hard time accusing someone of horrific acts based on statements and not on victim accusations so I am not on that train. But, he'll be removed for sure. It is just not rapid as most would hope.

To me the horrific act is what he said in light of everything that has happened. It isn't that he actively participated in any physical activity; it's that he is in a position of seniority and used his platform to defend the indefensible. In any private corporation this would be grounds for immediate termination.
ETA: And to expound upon what I feel like I've said a thousand times before, this is a ongoing PR problem. It is in the church's interest to discipline or get rid of people like this ASAP if for no other reason than to make a show of doing so to indicate sensitivity to the single worst type of crime that can be propagated upon another human being. I'm raising my kids Catholic and I don't want them associated with this kind of bullshit. My interest here is personal, as much as anything else.

10000000 times this. There really isn't room for the church to take a la de da approach to statements like this any longer.
They need to call it vile and reprehensible and get him gone.

They did. I just have not heard him gone. I am sure he will be. THAT is my point.
So is he retaining his directorship? Short of a removal from any and all positions of authority, the church is establishing once again that it protects those who protects abusers.
Yep. That really bothers me. I think it does a great disservice to the church's reputation.
