What? No, that guy was just a huge asshole. I honk. I give tiny honks if you need to put down your damn phone at the now green light. I give long honks if you nearly hit me.
That guy sounds crazy! Unfortunately, people take it too far. If someone is not paying attention or doing something dangerous, I honk to let them know I'm there. If it can help avoid an accident, then absolutely.
I'm pretty heavy handed with the car horn. If someone nearly hits me or pulls out in front of me, I lay on it until they move or yell at me. It will probably get me shot one day, but I have road rage issues.
That guy was an ass, I would have probably written down his plate and sent it to the cops. But I'm ass like that. you don't stop your car and yell at ANYONE. Maybe if the cops pay him a call he'll calm the fuck down.
I live in Texas. I assume everyone has a gun so I try not to honk. If you are about to hit me or sit at a green light for too long I will.
I do however use colorful language in the car. Now DD says stuff like "Go duuuude!" or "Oh my gosh what is your deal?!" in the car. Oops. Thankfully she hasn't said worse.
I used to honk a lot. Not obnoxiously but I would tap the horn once while yelling at them. Until one day this car cut us off and I had to slam on my brakes and my 5 year old yelled "honk at him mommy!"
Absolutely I honk in those situations. I rarely honk when someone hasn't gone at a light. It's more for, "you're about to hit me/you're endangering people/follow the rules."
I always think of honking in situations when it's too late. Like when someone cuts me off, etc. I'm pretty light on honking- just at lights when it's green and they aren't going and if someone is about to hit me.

How long do you let them sit? I've been behind people who won't honk and have sat through a whole green light.

Ditto. Usually they are on their phones. Annoying.

There are so many things wrong with the bolded. (not with you, abs, but with the need for it)

Oh, trust me. I know. I'm not a fan and I hate thinking this way but I'd be a fool not to.
I don't know how long I'd wait before I'd honk, I don't time it but I try not to do it regularly b/c I HATE when I'm honked at when it's been 1 second. It depends on the light, I guess, short ones I'd be more apt to honk.

Yeah I definitely don't honk right away. I slowly count to 4. Then honk lol

Yep, I give a 5 second courtesy window before you get honked at. That is plenty of time to realize the light is green, IMO.
I just honked today at a woman who was parked, then decided to pull out right as I was driving past her car! She came about 2 inches from my bumper. I don't blame you for honking at that guy, and his reaction was totally off the charts. Not your fault!
