Actually, so you guys remember Ryan White and the Ryan White legislation? I'm pretty sure I remember Nancy and Ronald posing with him and talking about kids with AIDS. Maybe this is where HRC was going with it, but how weird.
I guess since we now know the Just-Say-No campaign was not the best that it is hard to find a great campaign that Nancy ran?
ETA - just looked up the act and Ryan White and he did visit the white house and was photographed with the Regan's, but Bush Sr signed the law in 1990 after he died. So it wasn't a Regan thing.

I was wondering if she was remembering the photo ops with Ryan White too and wasn't thinking too hard.

I was thinking about that too. Many people don't realize how terrible the Reagan Whitehouse was in regards to AIDS. Of course that's no excuse.
She did immediately apologize, though I'm sure for many the damage is already done. link
This is probably the stupidest thing she has said in a very long time. It's so, so bad. I don't get what she was thinking.
This Vox piece on it gives a good summary - TL;DR - Nancy Reagan eventually came around and was one of the more influential people working on AIDS issues in the administration, but the bar there is really freakin low, and before then, both she and the Gipper were just awful.
I'm surprised anyone is surprised by this. She is barely passable as a liberal candidate. Rewriting history with enhanced Reagan fawning is right up her alley.

This is just silly. Hillary Clinton is and has been a liberal for a long long time.

I don't know why she didn't talk about "Just Say No?"
I guess it was probably hard to find something to say. But like, Google first? Hillary's staff does have google, right?
Just Say No is pretty unpopular. I can't imagine if she would have praised that, lol. How would that even go "Nancy Reagan is best known for Just Say No...which is widely seen as terrible." Or if she praised it, people would be all mad about that. I think she was safer talking about Alzheimer's and probably should have stayed away from AIDS.
Being slightly to the left of Senate Democrats and being in step with them other times they've been painfully wrong does not make one a liberal.
And looking at the issues she had the occasion to vote on while ignoring centrist/right-leaning positions she did not directly vote on is a political slight of hand she would be proud of. A++

First of all, the second link does not only look at issues she had the occasion to vote on. Although "her voting record is irrelevant!" is kind of hilarious.
But you tell me, why is she not liberal? What are her "right-leaning" positions?
I feel like this election could be Hillary's for the taking, and yet she's slowly blowing it.
Seriously. She needs to get this shit together already. The republicans are self destructing. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HARD.
Or, this is just the best she can do? She has racked up a lot of experience, piling hard work on top of a whole 'lotta name recognition. That doesn't mean she is a leader, an innovative thinker, or a person of integrity. Just sayin'.
I'm really surprised at all the genuine support for her on this board. I will vote for her if she becomes the nominee, but she is a seriously flawed candidate AT BEST. Bernie isn't perfect either, but Clinton is a special kind of disaster.

She reminds me of great athlete who chokes. Does she want to win this thing or not--because there is no Obama on either side right now? She should have this thing on lock. Bernie is 98 years old with one mantra and every Republican is a joke. All she has to do is coast and not piss anyone off at this point! It can't be as difficult as she's making it look. I'm starting to feel like even *I* want it for her more than she wants it for herself.
This was a HUGE blunder. I don't understand why she keeps stepping in these things.
twotrue , I see what you're saying about it not mattering to people who aren't gay, but I will say it does matter to me. I worked so hard in the early 90s on AIDS awareness in gay communities. This is making me rage because the Reagans gave zero fucks about AIDS...until a little white boy came along. Anyway, I know you're right, but I had to put my .02 in. AIDS and AIDS research is one of the reasons I loathe the Reagans. LOATHE.
It burns me so bad that I don't feel as though I have another choice. (Don't start on me Berners.) This is awful to me.
sfy, your analogy to choking is spot on. It's just so disappointing to me. As a person, she has disappointed me.

Despite my joke above (I feel I need to keep it a little light about Hillary), this is how I feel. I'm also an LGBT ally/activist, and the Reagans make me rage on this issue. For Hillary to roll in and gloss over, nay, piss all over how that went down, I just can't. I wasn't joking about what I said about "misspeaking" all the damn time. She really is an asshole a lot.
This was around the year 2000. If you are a homophobe after Pedro was on The Real World, I don't have time for you.
Okay, so fifteen years ago, someone said that her husband said that she wasn't as comfortable as he was around gay people because of her religious upbringing. That's it? That's the sum total of evidence that she's "not a liberal" today, right at this very moment?
Back to the topic, I'm honestly baffled by this gaffe. I mean, this is basic stuff and she blew it. Even if somehow she didn't know, which is hard enough to believe, how did none of her people prepare her better than this? It's just such a huge mistake and such a pointless one too - it wins her absolutely nothing from anybody - that I have to believe it was an actual mistake and not a miscalculation like some of her other problems have been.

I seem to remember feeling like this back when she ran previously. She doesn't seem to choke in debates, so why does she do it in the wild?
Anyway, why is she speaking at Nancy's funeral anyway? Why not leave that to the Regan lovers and family?

Are we really surprised? I feel like this has been her entire campaign so far: Do or say something stupid, but people are so desperate for her to be the candidate, that they shrug off far more than they would if she wasn't a Clinton. The whole, 'I don't like her, but I'm still going to vote for her' is a huge problem to me. Why? Why are we so desperate to make her president? Damn it! Surely there's someone better out there.

She wouldn't be shrugged off if their were better opponents, I think. Think Obama 2008. I don't think it's because she's a Clinton. I'm not sure the Dems have better options right now.

I don't understand this either. I know it's customary for the current and former First Ladies to attend the funeral of a former First Lady, but I don't think they all spoke, did they? And if one was going to speak, shouldn't it be Michelle Obama as the current FL instead of Hillary?
