A woman in my former town suffered from postpartum depression and last night she shot her husband, their 6 month old son and herself. He family acknowledged she'd been suffering with depression since the birth of her son.
GOD DAMN IT. I didn't know her but WHAT A FUCKING WASTE. Why did no one think to remove her service pistol?
This hits on two of my hot-button issues: post partum mental health and access to guns. She was a game warden and understandably had a weapon, but WHY did no one say, "hey maybe a weapon isn't such a great idea right now..."
So sad. Two of my best friends are psychologists, and I have already told them that if I show any signs of PPD after I have the baby, they are to commit me immediately. I told them this after a woman who is a friend of a friend shot herself while she was in her house alone with her three children.

Horrific. I posted this when it happened but a coworker of mine in Florida shot herself last year and left her 8 month old alone in his playpen until she was discovered. With hindsight, everyone said she had been acting strange for months but they put her it down to her being tired because her son was teething. So sad.
It's so, so sad. I can't bring myself to read anything else about it. That poor family.
It's been a rough week here. Did you hear what happened earlier with the woman and the ex boyfriend? Another case of the system failing domestic violence victims.
Why did no one get her any fucking HELP if they knew she had PPD? And removing a pistol should have been #1 on the priority list. That is fucking tragic and 100% preventable.

I did see that. Good thing BOTH of those retraining orders protected her, huh?
