I really hope that plastic eating bacteria proves as beneficial as is thought currently. We are in desperate need of a solution to our plastic waste problems.
I need to send this too my boss. Our awesome espresso machine that grinds whole beans & makes the pucks itself broke and he bought a fucking pod machine to replace it. So annoying and not nearly as delicious.
Given that article about millenials* shunning cereal because it requires too much clean up, I don't see much hope for moving away from disposable, single-serve everything.

*not all millenials
but there is a ton of shit that is not single serving b/c anyone with half a brain can figure out a single use serving from something like a tube of toothpaste.
how in the world did this shit take off? its all the same people who buy bottled water, isnt it?
Remember me talking the other day about how my parents drink bottled water allllll the time? they use k-cups too. Multiple ones per day. It pains me.
Which reminds me, I need to google and see if I can just get them a recycling service. This is not a money issue with them, it's a laziness thing.

I was thinking about asking my company if they'd consider switching to the San Francisco Bay pods instead of the green mountain ones. I know they are still not great but surely they are better? My company must go through 500 pods a day
I bought a machine that has the pot and the single serve side (with a metal filter so no waste beyond coffee grounds). I'm using the pot a lot more because it does taste just so much better.
I got one of those ceramic pour over filter thingies for work. I like it!
This is my husband, and... most of the people we know. He even converted his parents when they came for Christmas. They tried to go out and buy an electric coffeemaker, but as soon as he made them pour-over, they had him write down the instructions so they could make it for themselves (he drinks one cup a day in the morning, and they drink ALL day) and then they went back home and bought their own Chemex.

Ew. That is not a replacement for an automatic espresso machine. What was he thinking?
We just bought my dad a nice machine from Seattle coffee gear. Send him the link. lol
I contacted HR to ask if they'd be willing to switch to the 97% biodegradable k-cups... will see what they say! the price looks comparable to the price of the green mountain pods they buy now.
My company has almost a thousand employees. If on average people are using one k-cup a day that is a ton of k-cups
they also use those tiny individual milk and cream thingies which are terrible as well! gah. Couldn't they just buy one large milk and one large cream each week? I'm going to address that next if they are receptive to the kcup discussion.
