I never knew James Bond was a book. Interesting...
Lol! Yeah, there's like fifteen of them! I googled since you ladies were no help and numbers 1, 3 and 5 are "the best." I started 1 (Casino Royale) last night. It's only 178 pages, so maybe I can up my page count quickly. My reading has stalled out lately.

So that's the name of one of the movies. Is it a new series? Oh FFS I'll just google.
I've actually only read On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It was the last of the Bond movies I saw, though. Probably because it's the one with George Lazenby when Connery fake-retired, and the story is kind of different from the rest.

Lol, no. The books were first. Ian Fleming is the author.
There are more films than books, but some films are based on short stories. Some are completely new. I think some might be based on novels that were written/continued after Fleming's death. Goldeneye is the name of Ian Fleming's estate in Jamaica - so not one of the original novels.
Casino Royale was also produced twice in the 50s - once for television and once for film, I think. But it's not part of the Bond "canon" as it is. Only the most recent film version.

Lol. The first one was written in 1953! One (female) reviewer described them as having "delightful sexist tropes." So, we shall see.
I've always been curious about the books. Ian Fleming was supposedly a misogynistic asshole though so far I have passed. However, he's been dead for ages so it's not like I would be giving him any money.
There’s actually a pretty good documentary about him on Netflix.

Bond is kind of a misogynistic asshole in the books, but still a complete badass, so I guess it depends on how your priorities lie. The books are also very much products of their time, and are a bit bigoted in a lot of ways, not just about women. I've only read 3 or 4 of the books - they're quick reads with a pretty formulaic plot line, but enjoyable if you like spy/crime sort of novels. The films all seem to add a lot of complexity to the plot in order to fill the time. Casino Royale has been my favorite of the books I've read, and it was the first one.

I've had Casino Royale on Kindle for years but have never gotten around to reading it. Maybe I should make that a goal for the year.
