maybe it's just the cradle cap!? I hope so. We've never had it (knock on wood) and I dread the day it happens - 3 females w/ longer, thick hair. Jack has a lot of hair, too.
Well I just looked at the strands daycare put in a ziploc and it looks like the pics online. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm in tears and totally stressed. I guess we will all get checked and have it all removed this afternoon when the lady comes and then treat with chemicals tonight and wash all our stuff on hot so we don't have any risk of it going beyond this

I'm sorry, @itsbritt. Just FYI, ask the service to be sure, but if they comb everything out, you shouldn't need to treat with chemicals, which are super harsh, and way less effective than comb outs. Have them comb out, and show you exactly what to do, then you'll need to follow up with daily and then weekly comb outs to get any new guys that hatch. Change all sheets, vacuum mattresses and big furniture. Run all pillows, stuffed animals, etc. through your dryer on high heat for 30-45 minutes. Wash clothes. The key is heat. And for the next few weeks, throw your pillows - pillowcases and all - in the dryer every morning.
It sucks, but you got this. The comb out services are great, they really, really helped me not freak out.
Oh no! Don't be embarrassed. It was unavoidable. Take a deep breath and focus on the task at hand. Don't forget about surfaces like car seats and jackets. What a major PITA.

I don't normally go here but saw this from the main page. We just had our first bout with lice last week (DS - 7). It seems to be almost a rite of passage in most daycares and elementary schools.
And honestly, it was not as big of a deal as I was expecting (once I got over the ick factor). We went to a Lice Knowing You salon - and I highly recommend seeing if you have one (or something similar) nearby. They use a chemical free process and guarantee their work. In an hour DS had been treated and DH, DD (9) and I had been checked (we all need to get checked for the guarantee). DS has to go back on Thursday for a recheck but that's it.
At home we washed all of our sheets (even though we technically only needed to wash his), put his blankets, stuffed animals and pillows in the dryer for 45 minutes, and vacuumed the carpets and couches. After 12 hours without human contact the lice will start to die, and can't reinfect someone. So anything that he hasn't touched in 12 hours shouldn't need to be dealt with.
On the other hand his friend had it (as did his friend's brother and mom) and they've tried doing home treatments using vinegar, coconut oil, etc. They're on their third round of treatments and still haven't been successful.
Oh goodness, sorry you are dealing with it, but you will be fine. Do you really think your coworker and her child still have it/have it again? If I remember correctly you suspected it was due to her not being aggressive in treating it/not treating it thoroughly enough. I would be ticked if that is the case.
Well as far as I know they got rid of it. But I'm not going to lie that I immediately thought that too. So h and I got thoroughly checked and don't have it. No live bugs on ds just some nits and now he's fully treated and nit free. That was the best 135 bucks I have ever spent. We just have to do a comb through tomorrow and another check in 5 days. What a relief it didn't take us all out tho!! I washed everything and vacuumed etc. and now I'm exhausted. But relieved!

Thanks! We did use a company and now I feel a lot better. We have the comb, I did the tea tree oil spray mix and I cleaned. I was pretty grossed out but the company is professional and really made me feel much calmer.
Oh I'm so sorry I've never heard of a mobile unit like that though, very helpful for sure! Good luck ...early spring cleaning?
Yes!! The company had good ratings on Yelp and I figured why not. Best decision ever! There is no way I could have gotten everything out of his hair. Good point about spring cleaning lol

Good to know about the special lice salons and the mobile service thing! If we get lice, I'm going to see if we have that around here. Seems like the way to go!

Very jealous! They're supposed to announce a date for our city but haven't yet so I'm still waiting anxiously! I saw them in 2004 and it was a great show.
