DS was practically born smiling and he loves to laugh, even now at 2.
DD is only 6 months and she would only give us smirks/tiny smiles for the longest time. She finally laughed a couple months ago, but it's still rare compared to DS.
DD is just so dang serious (her name sign is even related to her seriousness while DS' name sign is related to how much he laughs!). She's very observant though.
Both kids smiled between 4-5 weeks and I don't consider either to be "easy" although I also don't consider them extremely difficult. Horrible sleepers and not "laid back"
My nephew smiled and laughed really early (he's six days older than DS so comparing was easy) and he still laughs SO MUCH and huge belly laughs over the littlest things and he is an easy kid. Sleeps anywhere, happy all the time, goes to anyone, low maintenance... So yes I see your theory
DD smiled at 6 weeks and was difficult and a terrible sleeper. DS just smiled for the first time (7.5 weeks) and is a better sleeper and generally more easygoing.
I can't remember how old AJ was when he started smiling, but he was an easygoing happy baby. I'm about to go check FB to see if I can figure this out because it'll bug me
ETA: found photographic evidence of the cutest little ovary exploding smile at 5 weeks.
Try not to fall for Facebook pics either. If you look at my Facebook from birth to week 8, my child was delightful. Everything was peace and sleep and cooing. But in reality, she cried daily from 5pm-2am. People didn't believe me when I would tell them how hard she was because when I took her out in the day, she was perfect.
Ds2 was super easy baby but he never smiled (he did but just not smiley) I remember trying to get him to smile for his 6 month pictures and he would only give me a straight face!

DD didn't smile until at least 9 weeks. I was terrified that her newborn resting bitch face was a sign of her future personality. Seriously, she always looked grumpy. However, she turned into a really easy baby.
My DD was easy going and slept well the first year and smiled at 8 weeks and then didn't smile all that much. DS smiled at 5/6 weeks and smiles all the time but sleeps worse and has separation issues.
