I hauled a box of hazardous materials to the recycling center today and a half empty container of lighter fluid leaked all over my hatchback. Thank god for Weather Tech liners - not a drop got on the actual car. And the only things in the trunk were some reusable shopping bags that I tossed and an ice scraper. But the extra end of the tether straps on my kids' car seats hang down into the trunk and got rather soaked. I soaked them in water and dish soap when we got home, and have been airing out the back of the car all day. They still reek. How do I solve this one? I'm honestly tempted to just cut them off. It's the excess part of the strap, and they will never need to be made longer than they are in my car...thoughts?
I would personally just cut them. I don't see how it would make a difference.
Right? It's not going to change anything about how the seats are installed. I guess my only hesitation is that the straps aren't going to just unravel, right?

You can't soak them. They'll need replaced. Call the manufacturer and ask how they want you to proceed. They'll probably send you new ones free of charge.

Now that I think about it, not the best idea lol. I was thinking with a match like you would rope? But that is a colossally stupid idea if lighter fluid has soaked the strap lol!!
