A suspicious piece of mail containing white powder was sent to Eric Trump's New York City apartment Thursday, a Trump Organization source told ABC News.
A preliminary field test indicated the substance did not appear hazardous, according to the source, who was briefed on the matter.
The NYPD confirmed to ABC News it responded to a call at Trump Parc East, a high-end residential building on Central Park South, but it did not identify the recipient of the mail as Donald Trump's 32-year-old son, who has an apartment in the building. (The Trump Organization source, however, confirmed the letter was indeed sent to the Trump offspring's 14th-floor apartment).
The New York Police Department said, "At approximately 7:15 p.m., the NYPD responded to a residential building at 100 Central Park South to investigate a report of a suspicious letter received by a tenant. The letter has been removed and is being examined by law enforcement authorities. No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident."
The letter carried a Massachusetts postmark and was opened by Eric Trump’s wife, Lara, and white powder fell out, according to the source briefed on the matter.
Trump security called the authorities upon the discovery, prompting a large response by NYPD, the city fire department and other agencies.
The white powder was accompanied by a threatening note that said something to the effect of: Either Donald Trump drops out of the race or next time this will be real, according to the source.
Out of an abundance of caution, the NYPD checked other known Trump locations, including Trump Tower..
Ya know, I really do feel bad for the Trump kids' spouses and kids (Trump grandkids) in this mess. I feel like this is only a drop in the bucket of what's to come, regardless of who wins the nom and who wins the election.

I don't think anyone should resort to violence against them, BUT they are standing up there right by their dad when he says awful things, so people becoming unhinged and acting out is going to be their reality. Didn't Donald Jr go in on Jon Legend last week when he called out the Donald?

I'd feel badly if they weren't actively campaigning for him.

Please note I said spouses. I don't know their family dynamics but threats against their personal residences and family members is abhorrent to me regardless of the candidate.

I have mixed emotions about things like this. A lot of the stuff Donald is promoting will result in people's deaths. He is promoting violence against peaceful protestors and not letting refugees in to improve or save their lives. Everyone is just supposed to sit back and let him go? What he's doing is less direct but it is going to result in people dying. He doesn't respond to reason.
This and the Social Security thing are really uncalled for. Trump is the scum of the earth, but that doesn't make it OK to do these things. It's bad enough that he's causing our country to sink lower and lower ... we don't have to add to it.

See, anyone who says something like this is just as bad as Trump. When Trump talked about targeting the families of terrorists, everyone was (rightfully!) up in arms. It's hypocritical to even have mixed feelings about targeting his family.

LOL way to push me to defend the other side. As I get older I have come to believe that not all people can be reasoned with. Sometimes you have to use a greater show of force. I believe Trump is one of those people. It's not hypocritical to want to stop him from killing people, and he is killing people. His weapon is his crazy followers.

This is just baffling to me. So do you support his stance on going after terrorist's families? In no way, shape, or form do I support Trump, but I also don't think that we should do the horrible things that he's talking about doing in an attempt to prevent him from being able to do them.

I don't think its being a hyprocrite to have mixed feelings, given that his family clearly endorses some of his points of view since they stand along stage beside him when he says the things he says. Is it a surprise that people are having emotional reactions? (and NO, I am not condoning the acts against his family)

Her last post said that sometimes you have to use a greater show of force, and she thinks that Trump is one of those people who you have to do it with. Having mixed emotions is very human, but targeting families is literally something that Trump said we should do. I just think that it's important to be consistent and condemn it for everyone, or else his supporters can easily say "so people get angry when he suggests targeting terrorists's families, but it's okay to target his???".

We have other ways to stop him. Don't vote for him. Stop giving him such a media platform for his violent viewpoints. Heck, I don't know when the line gets crossed for inciting violence, but consider coming at him with the law.
Don't terrorize his family, no matter how unsympathetic they are. That's just simply not OK, ever.
His sons aren't just innocent bystanders on stage supporting their father. They are hated by many because of their own views, particularly for their big game hunting and their all-white radio show that has KKK guests on frequently. I'm sure they have their own group of people wishing them ill, and this doesn't necessarily need to be tied to their father at all.

Theoretically I like that stand. In reality if it was my family being directly threatened by his inflammatory rhetoric I'm not sure I'd stand on principle so easily.

Just so I'm clear. You support killing terrorists families?
you certainly have been an...interesting addition to the boards.

OK, so they sound like horrible people.
But the OP specifically says that the note "said something to the effect of: Either Donald Trump drops out of the race or next time this will be real,"
so I'm pretty sure this one is tied to Trump's candidacy.
