Anyone have IC?

Background: I had a lot of UTIs as a child due to a structural problem and underwent a lot of tests. I outgrew it though and only have had a handful since my teenage years. (I am 37). My last UTI was 5 years ago.

Almost two weeks ago, I came down with an UTI. WEnt to the doctor, tested positive and they sent it off for culture. Did 5 days Macroib and then 5 days Cipro when that didn't work. My culture came back positive for S.saprophyticus which they don't run sensitivity on because they said cipro and the macroib would work. 

It's almost two weeks later and I still have the urgency to go, pain and pressure.  I have been drinking tons of water and she prescribed DITROPAN-XL to help with the pain.  I just dropped off another sample this morning and went for a kidney ultrasound. 

I have no idea why this is happening but it sounds like IC. I had no symptoms prior, I did urinate a lot but I drink tons of water and had two big babies.

elynne2012, I have IC, was diagnosed about 10ish years ago. It seemed to come out of nowhere. I have had maybe 2 UTIs before getting diagnosed. I went to the doctor because I had a lot of urgency/frequency and thought it was a UTI. My culture was negative but he thought maybe I caught it early. So that treatment didn't work.

Besides urgency, frequency I had a lot of pain in my back and bladder area. It took months before a doctor mentioned it to me as a possibility. I had an endoscopy and was diagnosed. I have had a lot of luck with controlling by diet. I still get flare ups, usually around when I have my period and with certain foods. I had tried a medication, can't remember which, but it gave me diarrhea and I stopped that. I took pain meds as needed probably the first year.

I don't, but I worked on an account for Elmiron. Is that the med you were on katie?

Yes, that was it. At the time when and where I was working getting that side effect wasn't an option, unfortunately. Sad reason and luckily I was able to get it under control which seems so bizarre to me to go from where I was 10 years ago to now.

Maybe its a kidney stone.

Ask for an ultrasound.
