DH and I may do a renewal because we did a JOP thing when we relocated and I had to quit my job. Needed the insurance coverage if I was going to SAH. (how romantic.) I'd like to do one where the kids and grands could all be present and make it a big family vacation type thing in Hawaii or something similar.

My parents didn't do a full on renewal, but when my dad retired after 28 1/2 years of military service, he called my mom on stage, rehearsed a portion if thier vows, and gave her a past, present and future ring, to replace her engagement ring. She'd lost her tiny, less than 1/4 carat diamond earlier that year.

When my grandparents renewed their vows on their 40th anniversary in front of their children and grandchildren, it was sweet. My cousin who has been planning her vow renewal since her first anniversary (complete with Pinterest inspiration board) is stupid.
SS - I think yearly is stupid. For big anniversaries it seems sweet, as long as it's not over the top. I also think than when a couple has been through hell in their relationship and have decided to make it work, a vow renewal can be a good thing.
If someone had been through a really rough patch--like made it through an affair or a difficult health scare--I could see the vow renewal being really meaningful.

I think it is kind of silly, but DH wants to do it just to throw another kick-ass party. I told him maybe we can come up with another excuse to throw a similar party, like a significant birthday or some other joyous event.
