We seriously have no options for internet at the new house.
Suddenlink is about it. They want monthly: $39 basic+$10 for Wifi or you can buy a $100+ modem, plus another $5 to protect the lines or if there's an issue, it's $40/hour. With tax=$60.
I've called At&t Uverse, Verizon Fios, Charter, nothing.....
Any thoughts?
And I am so pissed at our lender and their ridiculousness right now, I just sputter. Why am I paying people to half ass this stuff?
Don't pay for Wifi!! Buy a wireless router and hook it up to your modem with an ethernet cord. Use the install disk to set up your wireless network and passwords.
That said, we are paying $60 for just internet. It sucks.
Yeah, internet in my area is pricey too. I decided to go to Best Buy and buy a wireless router and modem. I was able to get better than I would have through the Internet company, and didn't have to pay the monthly fee for mine (and in 10 months the monthly fee would have paid for mine outright, whereas the fee would be on-going).
Yes, I pay that. I am renting my wireless router now because this is short term and I wouldn't recoup the cost of buying my own before my lease and being stuck with Uverse was up.

Yes, you can also buy your own modem and avoid that fee. I would check with the internet company and get a list of modems they support. When we first set our internet up 8 years ago the modem was free. Laziness has prevented me from returning the time warner provided modem and buying my own.
I imagine we will absolutely do the router and modem purchase to save those fees. Sorry to everyone paying these outrageous prices! I didn't know how good I had it at $28
I hope they are better for you than they were for me about 4 years ago! I was paying somewhere around $150 for Internet and basic cable. The Internet was so slow that I couldn't even watch Netflix and browse the Internet at the same time. It seems like there is a reason why they are only in areas where you literally have no other options.

Yeah, I think $28 is a steal for good internet. $60 may be a bit pricey but it doesn't really raise my eyebrows; I'd expect something in the $40-50 range for internet alone.

I feel your pain. We live in an area where AT&T DSL is the only option and service totally blows. I can't even stream shows and play online at the same time, and if my H and I are both online it craaaawls along. We pay $60/mo for that shit.
I'm jealous at all of these low prices. We have only one choice in our area and it's at a minimum for $85/mo right now for a "discounted" rate. I have it in my calendar to call next month before they hike it up to the normal rate of $150/mo to cancel if they don't offer a better rate. It's the medium speed.
Lurker here. We have Suddenlink, too. They have a data cap and if you go over they tack on an additional $10 for every (I think) 50 megs you go over. My H runs an Etsy shop and we use Apple TV, so we exceed our limit it seems like every month. Beware if you rely on streaming or the Internet for work. I got our bill today for $114. It's frustrating.

We pay $60/month for "standard" (15 Mbps) service with Time Warner Cable and that's with us owning our own modem and wireless router. We also have no other cheaper options unless we reduced the speed down to where streaming wouldn't work. No fiber optics where we live; can't even get DSL because we're too far from a switching station.

We pay $90 CAD for internet. At our old house we paid the same amount for internet, home phone and cable. We have very few options and this is one of the cheaper ones. We also have a data cap but after the limit the speed just slows down.
Ours bumped up to $80 recently when our promo of $65 ended. Just internet through Cox. We called and got it lowered to $75. It sucks. My last few places Internet was either included or I had a roommate and we had cable and the bill was together, so I hadn't looked at just the cost of Internet in probably 6 years. I was shocked!!
We pay $27/mo with Time Warner. I didn't realized what a good deal I had until I read this thread. We own our modem & wireless router. According to TW our internet speed is uber slow but I have no problems watching Netflix with it.
I had my own modem and router, but they routinely "stop supporting" those here - like every 2 years. So now I'm just renting from them - I got tired of always having to replace my modem and router and them claiming every problem was on my end.
Ours is $80/month We have the second cheapest speed and no other services.
Yup, my folks were paying $90 just for the wireless pic frame I gave them (they wanted to learn to use their laptop but never did). They're cutting it today.
It's really sad, it should be like a public utility.
