I just learned that I do not have any immunity to varicella (chicken pox). I never had them when I was little but did get one dose of the vaccine about 15 years ago. I have the option of getting the vaccine again now, it's administered in 2 doses 30 days apart and since it's a live virus/culture we couldn't TTC for two months. I am currently on cycle 9 of trying, and have previously had two early losses. I'm torn about what to do. I rarely come into contact with kids, so I think it's pretty unlikely that I would pick it up somewhere, and and I don't really want to stop TTC, but on the other hand it is dangerous to have when pregnant. FWIW I rarely get sick. Would you take a break from TTC and get the vaccine, or skip it and hope not not come into contact with someone who is contagious?
I had the same problem I no longer had immunity to chicken pox or MMR when I when to my obgyn for my ok to TTC labs. I SWEAR she told him I had to wait 90 days after getting the shot to TTC.
Anyway, before having my LO I NEVER came in contact with kids. We have few friends in the area and just moved here less than 1 yr prior to TTC. Anyway, getting chicken pox while pregnant is VERY serious. I chose to put off my TTC for 5 months just to be sure.
One last thing my chicken pox vaccine was ONE DOSE so check around.
I do have immunity to MMR, luckily. The CDC now recommends 2 doses for children and adults. When I had it before (shortly after it was approved in the US) only 1 dose was required.

Hmm that must be a new recomendation. I got one shot in 2010. I may need to head back to test my immunity.
