Hi!
I was hoping you all could give me some advice on where to stay? My husband and I, and his parents, will be out in Seattle next week and we currently have two reservations at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown/Pioneer Square and the Renaissance. My husband's family likes Marriott's, so that is why we have been looking at those two. Is one better than the other for location/sightseeing? TIA! This will be a bit of a post and run, but I will be back later! Thank you again!

Well, I'm not sure exactly... I think I would lean towards the Marriott only because the Renaissance is next to the freeway. Both are south and/or east of the main downtown attractions, but you can walk/bus easily.
I don't know that'd I want to be walking around Pioneer Square at night and I feel the Marriott seems far for 'normal' walking. And I say normal walking cause I'd have no issue, but it would depend on where you're from and how much walking you're used to. It's also up hill, if I am remembering right?
My parents stayed at the Fairmont Olympic and Sheraton and liked the Sheraton more, which are both a little more central to sights.
I was thinking this too... but I didn't want to scare her, lol. I mean, I have been down there at night for various things and never had a problem, but it's not exactly the best part of downtown either (which is sad because it's beautiful and old). Neither are great options IMO.
What about the Marriott near Lake Union? Probably less expensive than being right in the heart of downtown, but still pretty convenient (and that area has undergone a lot of work the past few years so it's getting nicer).
If you want to stick with Marriott I would recommend the one on the waterfront. A little less walkable is the Courtyard NY Lake Union, you can easily take public transportation from. There downtown.
