not tipping for a hair cut

Before today, I had never done this. BUT...

I took Tman to get his haircut today. It was at a cheepo place since we are really trying to pinch pennies right now. I didn't expect amazing, but I was disappointed. As soon as it was Tman's turn, he got up in the chair and said, "I know exactly what you need: short on the sides, fingertip length on top." I walked over with him and I said, "Actually, I'd like to have it really short on the lower part of the sides and then blended upward and then keep it long on top because he likes to spike it up sometimes. In the past, we have done a 1 on the very bottom and then more like a 2 on the middle of the sides and just trimming with scissors on top." She replied back saying that a 1 was too short. I told her that we had done that before and I knew how it was going to look and that's what I wanted. We bantered back and forth a little bit until I thought that we shared the vision.

Well, she ended up cutting it EXACTLY what she said in the beginning, short on the sides, fingertip length on top. It is not able to be spiked at all! I mean, it's not at all what I said.

It looks fine, and Tman is still super handsome, of course, but I left zero tip because she did what she wanted instead of what I specifically told her I wanted.

I feel kind of bad about not leaving a tip. Should I?

Oh yeah, for sure not going back. She gave us coupons "for next time" and I was so tempted to crinkle them up and throw them at her.

Nope. You didn't get what you asked for. If I were feeling particularly bitchy I probably would have said I'm not paying for it either.

I was >< this close to doing that. If it would have looked bad when she was done, I wouldn't have paid. As it was, it looks fine, just wrong.

Tman is such a good sport, too. I told him when we left that he looked super handsome, but that I wish she would have cut it like I asked. He said, "I like it short sometimes, too, mama. And the good thing is that hair grows fast"!

I agree with others I wouldn't feel bad about not tipping. You explained it enough what you wanted and she still didn't listen, probably because her idea was easier and quicker. I also wouldn't have paid at all even if it looked out because she didn't listen at all to what you said you wanted.
