Only one kid so far but our non-stop flights have been much better than our layover flights... He just gets irriated that he can't run all over the airport! Also, get the baby a seat, bring the car seat and strap them in!
We are going to Aruba with two kids. (in December) We will have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. We are getting two seats. We did one stop in the middle. I think it will work out. I prefer direct but it really puts destinations to be very limited. I think the break will allow the little one to move around and get tried again if needed. My 7 year is very good on the the plane. Not worried about her.
Go direct. Not only is it a PITA to entertain kids at the airport between flights, but a connection just opens the door for things to go wrong (delays, cancellations, etc.). When given the option, I ALWAYS fly direct.
Oh and due to DD#2 being lower tone we are for sure getting a carseat and bringing it on the plane. But we didn't use that at all for DD#1. She started flying at 3 or so years.
I just flew with my 14mo and you'll want to do non-stop. During takeoff/landing they'll have to be in your lap, but the rest of the flight you're much more likely able to move around. We had a 5h flight (get a seat on the aisle) and got up and walked around, hung out by the galley, talked to random strangers, and during all that she was fine. When she was forced to sit in my lap because of takeoff/landing, she was miserable. I suggest doing that only once
I always go with as few ups and downs as possible. No matter how much I try to get my 5 year old to swallow, her ears always bother her. Nonstop is easier!
I've done all of your options. The one I preferred vastly over the others was non-stop with both kids in seats. The other times... Nightmare city. Running for a connection because your flight is late is the fucking worst.
nonstop for sure, no question. Only an insane person would prolong it on purpose
I've flown with two kids alone and with my H. We don't buy seats until we absolutely have to, so lap baby is always my choice just for $ reasons. It's a big cost difference to buy four seats V three
nonstop for sure. I was just talking to my H about what bullshit layovers are. Often by the time you are boarding your second flight, you would have been at your final destination already, had you flown nonstop. We live in a smaller airport city, so nonstop is usually not an option.
I'd probably hold the baby. What's the configuration of seats on the plane? If you can get a row of 3 to yourself, I'd definitely hold the baby.
You can do this. Nonstop with a lap baby. I've done it for 9 hrs and it's doable. I prefer to fly during the day instead of red eye because if they don't sleep it is a freak'n nightmare.
