Has anyone had success watching this show outside of Hulu? I really don't want to add the subscription, but I'm really, really interested in seeing the TV adaptation.

I wouldn't bother. It was disappointing.
Good to know. I was waiting to read the book first. I won't bother with the show then.
I liked the show! But, as always with adaptations, you sort of have to separate the book in your mind. I am terrible with the "but that's not how it happened in the book!" If you are good about separating them, then you may like the show better.
I didn't love it; it wasn't screen perfection or anything. But I thought it was enjoyable and entertaining.
lol. Now I haven't read The Langoliers, but I remember watching that TV adaptation and practically laughing. I've watched if a few times, and I like it, but the cheese factor is strong with that one.
I read the book when it first came out and do not remember all of the specific details so the show to me has been good. I am having a hard time with James Franco as the lead.
We listened to the audiobook a few years ago which I think helps. I don't remember all the details and how much has changed. My Dh and I really liked it. It was much better than I anticipated. I guess it depends on your expectations. I know how bad some of his tv stuff has been and felt like this was better.
It is no shawshank but it is nowhere near as bad as under the dome! It is way better than his made for tv adaptations. But probably not as good as movies. I thought they did a good job. It was definitely higher budget than tv stuff and I liked that we had 8 installments. They did the best they could I think with fitting it into 8 otherwise it could have gone on forever!
Ok, so I'm finally getting back to this. It's not as good as Shawshank - but really, what is? I also loved Stand By Me and Misery. Under the Dome was a giant piece of garbage, and no, it wasn't anything even remotely in the same category.
The cast in 11.22.63 is phenomenal - no cheeseball actors (like The Stand mini-series). Really my biggest complaints center around the stuff they didn't include. Like, oh man i would have loved to see that scene or storyline on the screen. But even with 8 hours or whatever, they couldn't get nearly everything. Plus a few other minor thing I don't want to spoil.

I thought it was not good at all. Very underwhelming. I know that a lot can be lost in translation to the screen, but I thought that Bill's character didn't add anything to the story and that they didn't really go into depth enough on how its not good to go back and forth too many times. I thought Franco should have had to go back and reset at least once before it was said and done. And I would have liked to have seen more of the post JFK world instead of one little scene.

I felt like the book barely had anything in the post JFK world either, though. I haven't seen the show, so I have no idea just how short the one scene was, but I remember wishing there had been a little more about the new future in the book.
