Has anyone looked into the Kindle Oasis (for longer than the 5 min I just spent)?
This is the first time since I got my original Kindle (keyboard version) in 2011 that I've considered upgrading. Battery life = months, light or no light, touch screen or buttons for page advance, auto rotate for right or left handed reading, and these are two of the most exciting new features IMO (maybe they were on other versions that I had ruled out for battery life reasons):
X-Ray lets you explore the "Bones of the Book" See all the passages across a book that mention relevant ideas, fictional characters, historical figures, places, or topics of interest. The X-Ray timeline view lets you easily flip through notable passages to remind yourself of what’s happened in the book, or navigate easily through images.
Know how long it will take to finish that last chapter Time to Read is personalized based on your reading speed, and is constantly updated as your speed and habits change. At a glance you’ll know how much time it will take to finish a chapter or book.

Ooh, that sounds nice! I've 2 nooks, and have since moved to reading on my iPad mini. DH hogs it all the time, even though it was my gift, so I may have to look into the Oasis. Maybe I can hit him up for that for Mother's Day.
I'm not going to get one because I think it's crazy expensive for what it is. I enjoy my Paperwhite which I got for $100 and my only complaint is that it doesn't have a page turn button. You have to swipe for pages.

The time to read feature exists on my Kindle Fire. I find it a tad annoying actually and actively ignore it.
Good to know. I just hate not having any idea if I'm near the end of a chaper or should just put i down in the middle to take the whiny dog for her walk.

How long does your battery actually last?
At least two weeks probably longer because I'm not reading a lot on it. And it's hard to say at the moment because I've been reading this massive book on my iPad because it's an Adobe digital app only.
But not months like the Oasis claims. It just seems crazy expensive compared to the Paperwhite. And while I'm an avid believer that it is so much easier to read on eink. It just seems silly that you could get one of the nicer Fire's with more features for the same price
Yeah,so the weeks vs months thing is the primary reason I was never tempted by another Kindle after the original. But you may be right that the Oasis is just too expensive for what it offers compared to the Fire.

If you want to upgrade. I really like the Paperwhite and at $120 that's a fine price point for an ereader. I had a keyboard one before this too. The light is really nice and I like how it integrates Good Reads. I do like that it tells me how much time is left in the book/chapter.

I agree that it's too expensive. My paperwhite battery can last a very, very long time, IMO. Maybe 3-4 weeks or longer, as long as I keep it in airplane mode unless I am actively downloading a book. And really, it's not hard to charge it every 3 weeks or so. Not worth doubling the price. They only thing I miss on the paperwhite is the page turn buttons. But I'm used to that, and don't care much anymore.

All of this! I upgraded in the fall from the Kindle Keyboard to the Paperwhite and I love it so much more.

Is it terrible that I am keeping my Kindle 2nd Generation as long as possible? I have not had any trouble with it, and the battery will last about a week if I turn off the WiFi/3G, which I do unless I'm downloading books anyway.
I love the actual buttons for everything, including the keyboard! on my Kindle. I have no desire to upgrade until it's absolutely necessary.

Based on these comments I'll probably be keeping my 1st gen. It works just fine and everyone else is right that $289 is a lot for an e-reader.
I'm in the Paperwhite-Love camp. I love the e-ink for when I'm outside, and I like the light for when it's dark.
And like most others, I only use the "Time left in chapter" when it's a situation like, "Should I stop and do X right now, or can I wait until the end of the chapter?"
