I wouldn't want to have one wandering through my house (and I live on the other end of the continent from Cairns) but I think it is so awesome that the cassowaries literally just roam free.

Confession:  I have never heard of a cassowary until now.  It looks like a colorful emu.

They are similar to emus but cassowaries have a boney protrusion on their heads -- though I'm not sure anyone knows what purpose it has.  And emu "feathers" are more like hair than the cassowary feathers.  

When this was covered on the news last night, I commented to DH that you don't have to look very hard to find the dinosaur in the cassowary.

My husband is out of town this weekend.  I turned down multiple offers of things to do and plan to not leave my house (or interact with other humans) so that I can read all day.  So far, so good! A perfect morning with a small pot of tea, a scone, my favorite reading spot, and a book.

We haven't done anything recently because it's been way too cold.  But we're lining up a few things.  I do miss Betsy though.  I don't think she followed us to the new place.  I was kind of hoping that she would even though we told her to stay.

I'm sorry about Betsy. She must have been much like a family member.

She really was.  On the last night at our old apartment, we went to talk to her and tell her to stay since we knew that was her home.  We were using the voice recorder that we use on all of our investigations.  Well, she got mad at us and turned it off just after we asked her if there was anything last thing she wanted to tell us.  (  We left her mad at us.
