I just wanted to say I'm happy to have you new people here so I can talk books more! Of course the existing people are also great but just having so few of us made it hard to keep things going sometimes.
I'm thankful that everyone's been so wonderful about it. There were only a handful of us left on NBC and we just couldn't keep it active. We've been more active here in a week than months on NBC. I will miss it and I hope more of the people who only go there occasionally come over. I wasn't ready to not talk books anymore. Book nerds are my Peeps.

Same here! I think a randoms thread would be cool. It also might allow us that have recently migrated over to get to know ya'll a little better. I'm down for whatever though, as long as we can talk books at a minimum.
So my random is that we passed our Mass Title V septic inspection yesterday, so we're going ahead with house buying process! I'M SO EXCITED I HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS.
If only DH were as excited as me. When he gets nervous (big changes make him anxious) he clams up so you guys get to deal with my over zealousness. Sorry in advance. I feel bad for you guys.

YAY! I will be super excited with you
Sorry you didn't get a choice in the matter. Between you and my sister, you're going to hate me when the process is over. lol.

As for my randoms...
The line at the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru was super long yesterday morning. A lady and I were both getting in line at almost the same time, but I was begrudgingly nice and let her go first. Turns out, she paid for our order! I was so happy about this.
Opening day for DS's little league is tomorrow. We just found out last night what time to be there, when our game is scheduled for, etc.. I just can't believe how unorganized Little Leagues are. Last year, he played for a different league and they were a mess too. I know they are volunteers but, sheesh, how hard is it to make a schedule? I shouldn't criticize because it isn't like I volunteer to help out, but needed to get this out.
My random for today is that I totally chickened out on something. Last month, I talked to an editor about working on my completed manuscript that I've had hanging out forever and she agreed to take a whack at it. When I got the invoice, I panicked and asked her yesterday if we could push it back a bit. She was completely fine about it but I know that mh is going to be disappointed big time. He believes in me way more than I do.

So ... there's that.
What made you want to push it back? Is it just nerves or something else? I have no idea about the writing/publishing process. Will she just read it and provide feedback?

I feel like I'm going to puke every time I think about someone else reading it.

Awww, that sucks, but you won't ever reach your full awesome potential if you don't put it out there! What's the worst that could happen if your editor reads it? She doesn't like it? Don't most famous authors have multiple rejection stories?
Maybe you should read Rowling's new book on failure and imagination (and then report back on whether I should).
My MIL borrowed Madame Tussaud from me and she gave it to SIL to read. She gave it to her mother and wants to pass it along to her sisters this summer as well. We were talking about it over the weekend and everyone was so impressed with my awesome historical fiction recommendation. I took all the credit even though I found out about it on NBC lol
I really liked Madame Tussaud. I learned a lot about the French Revolution and thought it was quite an engaging story.

I probably should read it. Her Harvard quote about failure is one of my favorites.

Yes! It seemed to be very historically accurate as far as the French Revolution goes. I haven't read any of her other books yet, but I do plan to eventually.
I also really liked Nefertiti and Cleopatra's Daughter. I have others of her books on my list.
Total first world problem: my husband and I are going on an international vacation in under a month without the kids and I'm stressed out about planning travel itinerary details, packing lists, getting grandparents ready for taking care of the kids, and planning my daughter's 2nd birthday party for the weekend before we leave. I need a vacation from my vacation plans lol

I can understand how it would be scary to have someone else look at your work, but I am sure it is great! And, if she doesn't like it, eff her! lol. Keep pushing on. You seem like a bright, intelligent, imaginative person to me, so I can't imagine that you would produce something that is rubbish.
Here's my random - I'm a dumbass, because I noticed new people (and/or more activity here) but didn't realize why. I'm glad I don't have to go check the NBC board once a month anymore, or whatever. Welcome all!!
I am back home today after some work related travel this week, and I am beat. Plus I'm sort of slacking work-wise, and running errands.
I'm home this afternoon though, and trying really really hard not to start watching the new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which is out today. Husband would be bummed if I watched without him, but man it's hard because I can't wait to see it.

I'm so excited that season two is here! I can't wait to start tonight.
We haven't done anything recently because it's been way too cold. But we're lining up a few things. I do miss Betsy though. I don't think she followed us to the new place. I was kind of hoping that she would even though we told her to stay.

But then there's a chance that no one will want to buy it if I put it on Amazon. That would be even worse. In not buying the book, it would almost be like people are rejecting me personally.
I wouldn't want to have one wandering through my house (and I live on the other end of the continent from Cairns) but I think it is so awesome that the cassowaries literally just roam free.

Confession: I have never heard of a cassowary until now. It looks like a colorful emu.
