My friend and I ran a half marathon recently, which we registered for 3 months ago. We got a price break if we registered as "buddies" so I agreed to pay online and she agreed to pay me back. So, I paid $80 for her entry fee. She keeps saying, "Oh, I should pay you back" and never does. She totally has the money, so I don't think that is the issue. It's like she's just forgetful or something.
I'm not broke either, but hello! I can think of a lot of reasons I'd like to have $80 back in my pocket! I recently sent her an email reminder asking her point-blank to pay me back, but I'm starting to think I might never see the money. Lesson learned, I guess!

That's terrible she came to the race and ran it with you and didn't pay you back! Or buy you lunch after at least--something!
Hopefully she will mention it again..."oh...I should pay you back..." and you can say something like..."Yes, you really need to do that...when can I expect that?"
That's not mean, rude or anything! It's totally assertive--and you are in the right!

ugh i feel your pain.....this happened to me, except i paid for EVERYTHING (hotel room, race, car rental, etc) she said she'd pay me back.....never did. She did end up "making it up to me" by bringing over food and wine one night for a girls night....it def never paid for itself PLUS i didnt even eat any of the food or wine she brought
Rude. I would totally harass her until she paid me but that's just me. I think you're right though..some people are just forgetful and get distracted by other things going on in their worlds; it's hard for me to understand that though b/c I freak out if anyone pays anything for me and feel an instant need to reimburse--it doesn't leave my head until I do.
This is why I don't pay for things for friends or loan friends money (taking them out to dinner for a birthday or buying them a gift is something is totally different; I consider that treating them...). If I pay for something for someone, I never expect to see the money again.
