I took out 2 12' tall butterfly bushes on my own on Saturday. I couldn't run due to a bruised heel, but I did get a workout in demolishing those suckers. I just need to wait for the yard waste pickup on Friday and then I can go hit up the Lowe's clearance racks again. My 3 double Knockout rose bushes from 2 years ago are doing amazing on that side of the house.
DS and I picked strawberries Friday and I canned 4 pints of jam last night. I need 8 more quarts of strawberries to make enough for the year though. I forgot how far the strawberries don't go.
DH and I spent all weekend taking down our existing deck. It felt SO DAMN GOOD and it was a good workout too. The new one is being built on Tuesday. After complaining about the company we choose the guy is actually really communicating now. Part of me thinks it's because all his estimates are done and now it's getting everyone on the schedule but he called me twice last week and again this morning letting me know they're coming on Tuesday.
I created and held a conference on literacy in education on Saturday and it was well-attended even though it was our first 80-degree Saturday. It was great and one teacher said "I learned more today than any professional development I've ever been at."
We cleaned up a lot of the garden - I did so much weeding I have a bruise on my palm.
I planted some seeds too - sweet peas, few types of pole beans, zucchini, hollyhocks, zinnias. I've never done sweet peas, but I didn't piece/score the seed coat. I hope they still come up. I'm planning on getting a bunch of plants on Thursday or so and doing more planting this weekend. Ooh, and a lot of my perennials came back. Now I need to fill in w/more (I think I need some non-green foliage like coleus or heurchera).
DH hooked up the tv on the screened porch so we could watch the Nationals game - it was heaven!
After nearly four years in our house, we finally ordered new blinds to replace the cheap, white plastic mini blinds that are everywhere. They'll be here Thursday, and I'm hoping we can get the installation scheduled for next week sometime.
Oh! So, I'm taking a slightly different approach to weed management this year. In that on Saturday I went out and sprayed all the things I could find with RoundUp.
Normally I don't like using it and try to manage by hand. But usually by mid-May and then again in mid-July, the weeds just take over and I end up spraying the shit out of everything over and over and over. Because by then they're so big and established that there's nothing else TO do.
So I'm hoping some fairly aggressive/routine control early in the season when they're still small and helpless will lead to the ability to manage by hand thru the summer.
Also, I decided to SFG. Sort of. This year. Given I have nearly 350 square feet, I'm a bit terrified of what harvest is going to look like.
Congrats on the weight-loss! What is this dr. doing differently? I went to TWO parties yesterday. Normally i'd be hiding in my closet at the prospect of one, but i did it without drinking too much and without being weird and conversation-dominate-y because of nerves (i hope).
Meds. He diagnosed me with instilling resistance (which is, I guess, an entirely different animal from diabetes) and put me on Metformin.

We had a busy but fun weekend. I managed to clean the whole downstairs including my office which was a mess. We also helped clean, mow and bring out the patio furniture for DHs parents. (His dad is undergoing chemo and was in the hospital w complications last week.) Then we can home and talked over the backyard with the duplex-mates and got a bunch of stuff done out there.
We had the charity auction at DDs school Saturday night and I'm so sore from wearing heels!
arch01, when we moved into our old house they had let a butterfly bush overgrow to over 6ft tall. It was ridiculous. I spent a good chunk of a day cutting it down and digging out the stump.
DH and I spread 25 bags of mulch around the house. This doesn't include the flower beds the builder's landscaper did for us before we moved in. I made 2 new beds on the sides/back of the house. DH made a small paver patio for the grill as well.
PS-OMG, 7 months in an apt and we are so out of shape doing yardwork. It was all we could do to keep our eyes open yesterday to get E to bed (who incidentally got sick during lunch poor thing).

I moved over an entire SUV load of stuff from my MIL's house to our house and put it all away, including organising some filing to do this week. I cancelled two appointments and made another. I did two loads of laundry, vacuumed the carpets, cleaned one bathroom and made dinner (it's basically ready - almost 7pm). I took a bath as a reward between cleaning and making dinner.

We planted 10 trees and a rose bush yesterday. If they survive (which isn't guaranteed given my track record), they will be so beautiful someday. Fingers crossed!

I weeded my entire yard/beds this weekend. It about killed me (and I am sporting bandaids on three different fingers today), but it's done. At least, until the clover and other shit starts popping up ... but for now, I am pleased. I also planted the daffodil bulbs I had as Easter decorations, and a new lavender plant from Costco.

My PhD is officially DONE!!!!! I deposited my dissertation today and it was accepted. H and I have been living apart while I finished; I stayed behind in the old house and I am really excited to move in with him and start setting up in the new place.

Nurse Cramer had stopped speaking to Nurse Duckett, her best friend, because of her liaison with Yossarian, but still went everywhere with Nurse Duckett since Nurse Duckett was her best friend....Nurse Cramer was prepared to begin talking to Nurse Duckett again if she repented and apologized.
I did our taxes! Got everything filed by 9:30 tonight. Feeling pretty good that I was a little early. I actually had a terrible time figuring out how to handle a few forms, so getting it all done was a huge accomplishment and I feel so relieved.

Am I doing butterfly bushes wrong?! Lol. I cut them way down in the spring and dead-head them when they bloom (as much as I can but its a lot of work and they are really full of bees and bugs lol) but they get really tall, like probably 6 ft.
There was a 2nd one that never got over 4ft, but maybe your soil is just good for them.
2curlydogs, I don't want to rain on your parade but spraying well established weeds w/big root bases has never worked for me It works on the wimpy weeds, but I've had to spend the last 4 years digging out the big ol' suckers
