I know I'm not around much, still trying to get used to working, but my male lab, Kona is not doing good. I came home from work today and he is short of breath and wheezing. He is passing enough air and is not hypoxic but I don't have a good feeling. He isn't running a fever or appearing to be suffering from an infection so I am worried that it is cancer in his lungs. He is older, 13 which means I know he doesn't have a lot of time left anyways. My dad is going to take him to the vet tomorrow.
Can you guys spare some good thoughts for him, that even if he doesn't make it, that he doesn't suffer? I've had one heck of a week with my female bengal giving birth but dealing with two stillborn kittens. I don't know what I will do if I lose Kona too.
Update: not as bad as originally thought. He WAS running a fever and had clear bacterial infiltrates on the chest Xray. Vet gave him a shot of antibiotics and we brought him home. Hasn't had an episode of shortness of breath since and is still eating and drinking. She thinks he had some chronic bronchitis that became exacerbated when the heat hit. Hopefully this will do the trick. We should get a true radiology reading this afternoon. But so far so good! Thanks everyone for the nextie the! They seem to always work!
I hope that Kona's suffering can be eased. I'm sorry. Losing pets is awful. It seems like at least one kitten in each liter is stillborn. I remember how hard it was for me to understand that as a little girl when our barn cats would give birth but not all would survive. I hope your little Mama is doing okay.
