This book is a collection of essays and short stories written by Marina Keegan. She was a very talented writer with a promising career when she died tragically two weeks after graduating from Yale in 2012. Her writing is really honest and real. It wasn't pretentious or trying to hard but written in a way where I really felt like I knew the characters even in such short stories.
There are fiction and non-fiction sections within the book and if all you read is her essay called The Opposite of Loneliness you will not be sorry. It's really beautiful. Here's a link to that essay if you want to read it. yaledailynews.com/blog/2012/05/27/keegan-the-opposite-of-loneliness/
I just wanted to share this with you guys. I picked it up because one of the categories in the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge is to read a collection of essays. I don't think I would have picked it up without knowingly searching for that type of book and I'm really glad I did.
That essay is all the more poignant considering she talks about how much time they still have left to do anything or be anyone, but she herself tragically didn't get that time. Thanks for sharing.

I know! I don't know if her writing resonated with me so much because I knew her story and about her death going into it, but I think that I would have enjoyed her work either way.
