About to buy a rug for the DR. Do we need a rug pad? We didn't have one at the old house, but it was a tighter space than we're in now. It's going over oak hardwood floors. And if we need one, any recs?
I couldn't decide on whether or not to get felt or non-stick so I got a combo. I wanted the advantages of both without messing up the floor like I read about some of the cheaper non-stick pads. I put the pad felt side down and it hasn't been a problem.

I bought this one at the reccomendation of someone on this board, and it's pretty awesome. It's in a High traffic area with a thin flat weave rug on it. We have 2 kids and 3 dogs running on it, and the rug hasn't shifted.
I will say that on my jute rug, these (link) are a lifesaver to keep the corners flat. ssmjlm,
Oh I like those! DH put the rug down today and the corners may be an issue. The new table will be here sometime in May so we're going to see. It's a lot bigger than our current one.

Yes that was me! We have ordered two of them now and they don't ruin our nice site finished HW floors. Plus they cut the pad to size for free! Just tell them the size you want (~2" per side) in the comments.
