My mom and I are staying in Old town alexandria for mothers day weekend. We are looking for a little weekend getaway with shopping, restaurants, window browsing, coffee, tea, wine, all things girly
Any suggestions or recomendations of places to eat, things to see/do? We are open to any and all. Museums, shops, active things. As for food, nothing too pricey or over the top fancy. We really like everything, but not huge fans of asian or mexican
I love Old Town! Be sure to go to Sonoma Cellar for wine. They have a great selection and their back patio/garden is adorable. I really enjoy Columbia Firehouse and Virtue & Grain for brunch. Old Town also has great window shopping all along King Street but be sure to wander down side streets, too!

If you're into "having tea" you can see if the Ritz is having one while you're in town. It might be slammed for the holiday, though.
And last thing! Lavendar Moon in Old Town has great cupcakes, if you're not tired of cupcakes yet. Otherwise Kilwin's has delicious ice cream, fudge, and other candies.
I second Columbia Firehouse and Virtue Feed & Grain. I know that you said no Asian but Caphe Banh Mi is pretty much universally loved by everyone. I have never had a bad meal there. I agree with Jaleo for tapas. It's hard to go wrong with a Jose Andres restaurant. La Tasca isn't as good but will do the trick in Old Town and is a good place for sangria.
I haven't tried it yet but Blackwall Hitch is considered to be "the new thing" in Alexandria. It has a great patio. Charthouse is overrated in terms of food but has a great view and so is a popular recommendation for tourists. It's not bad but it's not as good as places like Columbia Firehouse.
Bar PX is worth checking out for cocktails. There are a bunch of Southern-themed brunch places. Magnolia's On King is pretty good. You might also like Southside 815. Jackson 20 has some good options and nice mimosas.
I forgot to add Carluccio's for Italian. There's also Nando's which is a very internationally popular grilled chicken restaurant. Both of these are very popular chain restaurants in the UK that have opened up in Alexandria/the DC area. Nando's is Mozambican/South African-Portuguese.

Can we just stop at Sonoma for a glass of wine or will I need reservations ?
