I'm reading Morning Star by Pierce Brown. I like it, but I wish I had re-read the first two since I am having a hard time remembering who people are (I should have at least re-read the second one.)

I just finished Lady Midnight, which I enjoyed quite a bit. She can get redundant in her prose but I liked seeing the lives of Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn 5 years after the Dark War. I just started The Taxidermist's Daughter, and the beginning smacks of The Raven Boys (St. Mark's Day, waiting for the upcoming year's dead to appear), but I know it will be heading in a very different direction shortly.
I take the jackets off if they're fragile and I don't want them getting any further damage, but mostly I leave them on.
I kind of put a pin in The Cider House Rules, because I needed to read and finish other stuff for my book clubs. I'm currently 60% of the way through The Aviator's Wife, but I kind of hate it. Charles Lindbergh was a shit pig, I get it. I'm not sure I'll be done for my club tomorrow because I'm having a hard time tearing myself away from other things to read it.
My goal is to read 50 books this year, and per Goodreads I'm 4 books behind schedule. I blame John Irving.
QOTW: I always take the dust jacket off a hardback, otherwise I end up ripping them. I also won't loan you a hardback book without removing the the dust jacket first - one, this keeps you from ripping it, and two, it reminds me that someone else has my book.

I'm reading Murder on Amsterdam Avenue by Victoria Thompson. It's number 17 for the year, and I'm mostly pleased with that number. My goal is 48 books (4 books a month), so I'm definitely on track, but I feel like I should be reading more than I am.
QOTW: I keep the dust jackets on unless they are too fragile. The question was inspired by a book I loaned to my mother and it came back to me without the dust jacket. I'm sure the next time I'm at her house I'll find the dust jacket somewhere "safe," along with a stack of other books dust jackets.

I've only read A Prayer for Owen Meany, but that was a slog enough. And it was an interesting story, I just felt like I was being dragged through it. I haven't braved anything else by Irving yet, though I want to read a few others.
The library I go to had a little table of memoirs set up and the cover grabbed me, lol. I'm about 2/3 of the way through and it is really interesting. She does a good job of mixing politics with details about her every day life. I didn't know much about Iran or Persian culture before reading this book.

This is exactly how I feel about The Cider House Rules. Being an abortionist when abortion was illegal is interesting, but at the same time I'm not sure I need so many details to the point where I can use a novel as a handbook on how to perform abortions myself.

Are you enjoying The Cider House Rules? I read it years ago and remember liking it. I have it on my kindle for a reread, but I'm a little scared it won't live up to my memory after A Prayer for Owen Meany. God, that book was tedious.

I'm enjoying parts of it, but it is so.freaking.slow. I feel like the overall story is super interesting, but the path to getting there could have used some serious hacking and slashing to trim down the wordy bits that aren't actually helping the story along. I think I'm only like, ~30% of the way in and I've been reading it for 6 weeks now.

Then I'm going to skip it for now. Thanks! I'm already in a rut and freaking slow will probably do me in.

Yeah, if you are in a rut, this is definitely not a book I would recommend. I need to read something quick and easy when I get in a rut, like The Martian. LOL!

I'VE BEEN DYING TO READ THAT AND JUST MISSED THE KINDLE DEAL!!!!!!! I'm so salty!
I finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, and it was such a sweet, well written story. I finished listening to The Light In the Ruins and was really disappointed in it.
Currently I'm reading A Dog's Purpose, a novel written from a puppy/dog's perspective and it's a light, refreshing read that's perfect for me right now.
I don't really have a reading goal this year other than to read at least a few of the many books on my shelf that I own. That's a challenge for this library addict!
QOTW: I always leave the dustjacket on hardcovers when reading them.
