I've done a fair amount of international traveling but frankly, I'm at a point now where I'm REALLY excited to know my country. My husband and I decided to take a year off from flying so everything we're doing this year is within driving or train distance. Our next trip is to Lexington and Louisville, KY so we can explore/do the Bourbon Trail. Twice now my dad has said, "what's the motivation behind this trip?" as if he can't figure out why we'd want to go there. My dad has traveled all over the world for most of his life so I can see how it's less interesting to him but I also think it's pretty close-minded. I think every place has something to offer.
When ILs got married they made it a goal to see all 50 states. DH traveled a lot for his job and now there's pressure to see who gets Hawaii first. So I'm guessing after disney we will probably save up for a Hawaii trip lol.
I don't think it's boring at all. DH traveled for work but had downtime. I would call him and he's in Tombstone having a beer at a saloon, or he was on a fan boat in the everglades on an alligator tour. Fishing in Alaska. Etc etc. I regret being unable to go with him.
My dream is to pull the kids out of school for a year and teach them while on the road visiting all 50 states. We'd visit historic sites, do all the national parks-- kind of a year of living American history.
We can't afford international travel right now. I have actually not left the U.S. I do have plans to travel internationally in the future, but right now, I am focusing on seeing as much of the U.S. as I can.
This is a beautiful country, and I truly believe every single state has some sort of beauty or something unique to offer. It's all about the journey and finding it. I have seen vistas in Michigan that I find just as beautiful as what I have seen in California. Landscape in Utah that blew me away just as much as Hawaii.
My inlaws did a trip from IL to AZ in Feb and had a great time, in part because they did some smaller fun things that I think some people may think are dumb or boring. They stopped in Winslow, Az and took a picture at the corner tribute to the Eagles, they stopped at small produce stands (and brought back the most amazing oranges), and went to an art festival thing in Az. Dh and I were so jealous.

There are certain states I don't have much interest in but for the most part I think US travel great. I am looking forward to taking my son to see as much of the US as I can when he gets a little older. I love international travel but we have plenty of great sites here in the US too.
Sure, it sounds great to me. I had no ambition to do it all at once, but I've visited 45 states and hope to get to the rest eventually. I love being on the road.

I love domestic travel, but it's not a goal of mine to visit all 50 states. My H is pretty close to visiting all of them, though. We talked about doing an east coast trip so he could knock out a few states.

I like all travel. I usually alternate big international trips with domestic trips. It's kind of funny to see people's reactions, though, because they'll ask where I'm going and sometimes it's something like Rwanda, and sometimes it's something like Tennessee.
Not at all! I love seeing new places, it doesn't matter where I go, and domestic travel can be exciting. I feel like I could travel all over Canada and i'd never get bored of it. There is so much to see.
If they are that into international then tell them you are going to Rome (GA), Paris (TN), Westminster (CA),London (MO) and Liverpool (TX). There are so many things the US offers and it makes for great travel.

So funny--I just said this exact thing to my boyfriend a few nights ago. Our son is only 9 months old, but when he is old enough to really appreciate it I think this would be so wonderful for all of us to do!
I did this twice with my parents but only for the summer, not the school year. They were too sick of us to want that much time together in a van.
So no, OP, I don't think it's boring at all. If I met you, I would think you were cool and interesting if you said you were trying to visit all of the states.

If I ever win the lottery, I'm doing this with my kids, but on an international tour.
