With the primary races sort of winding down, and people looking to the conventions and the race for the general election starting in earnest, there's not a lot of discussion about the vacant SC seat these days. I am curious to know what you ladies think is going to happen with that. For the purposes of the poll, let's assume that the presidential race will be between Clinton and Trump only.
I think McConnell will continue to be a dick about it and insist they won't even have a hearing so he can stick it to the black President while the Republicans up for tough re-elections shit themselves trying to figure out how they simultaneously distance themselves from him while still appealing to the voters who like that they're blocking the nominee.
So...I think nothing will change. Until HRC wins and nominates another liberal female judge.
If Obama lets the nomination ride through the election, and Clinton wins, does Obama offer to withdraw the nomination out of courtesy? I guess it depends on how the Senate goes?

What I wonder is who the Rs fear (for lack of a better term) more, Garland or someone HRC would nominate.
What they really need to fear is whether the Ds take back the Senate. Cause if that happens, Obama *could* withdraw his nominee in favor of Hillary nominating someone as liberal as all get out.
I'm voting for what I hope happens, that Clinton wins and Obama withdraws the nomination out of spite.
But I think that would only possibly happen if the Democrats take back the Senate. If the Republicans remain in the majority, she'll be in just as tough a spot as Obama is.

True, but I'm choosing to live in an ultimate fairy land and believe it'll all work out for the best.
I think if HRC wins and the Dems take back the Senate, which is looking more and more likely, Obama will withdraw the nomination to prevent a lame duck confirmation. And will cite the Republicans own bullshit back at them: "you wanted the people to have a say and they just elected Clinton. So I'm going to let her make a nomination."
And in my dreams, she nominates Obama and Mitch McConnell's head explodes on national TV.
I'm hoping he pulls the nomination and she nominates someone very liberal. Preferably a minority. Preferably female. We need more such voices on the court. And young, someone who will be there for 30+ years.

I'm curious to see where it goes. I suspect that if polling data suggests a dem takeover of senate and a Clinton White House then they will move to confirm him quickly to avoid a liberal justice. They have to know that waiting to see how the elections go is a huge risk.

I think that would be really disrespectful. I doubt he'll do it.
I think Garland will get confirmed. The timing not sure about.

I picked Clinton wins, and the nom stands, but is a recess approval out altogether now? I think the next president gets at least one nod and Obama would want hils to start with a full deck so slide it in when he can?
If Hillary wins and the dems get the Senate, I see no reason for Obama to NOT withdraw the Garland nomination. In that case, I would hope he would withdraw, and HRC would nominate a young super liberal, who would be a presence on the court for the next 40 years. I think the dems getting the Senate is a stretch though. (Although Deborah Ross is really make a run of it in NC!!) so I think Garland will be confirmed during the lame duck period.

If Trump is the nominee, the Dems taking the Senate is VERY likely. Feingold is going to get his seat back in WI. Duckworth is going to beat Kirk in IL. Ayotte is VERY vulnerable in NH. With a Trump nomination, I predict McGinty unseats Toomey in PA. The Dems would only have to pick up one other seat, which I think they can do.
But I agree with @mrsbecky and StrawberryBlondie that Obama will not withdraw the nomination. I think he respects the Court too much to do that.
If the Senate Republicans were smart, they'd confirm Garland now just to hedge against Obama withdrawing his name following the election. November is going to be a bloodbath.
