I don't really get Davos would ask Mel to bring him back. Who is Jon Snow to Davos? A fairly competent Lord Commander? Why does he care so much? and isn't he supposed to distrust Mel?
Hey, I love Jon Snow as much as anyone, but people die all.the.time in this show, so what's so special about him, really? Besides the fan theories and adoration, he's just another fairly competent dead dude.
Well what else is Davos going to do? Stannis is gone, the Night's Watch is full of idiots who will probably kill him, and the white walkers are still coming. Stannis saw something worthy in Jon Snow and I'm sure that faith has been passed down to Davos. Someone has to hold the Wall and/or the North against the white walkers. And it won't be Allister Thorne or the Boltons.
There's always been a theory that Tyrion is a Targaryen because Mad King Aegon was really in to his mom and Tywin never liked Tyrion much. Personally, I think dragons are just smart. It would be too much if Tyrion and Jon were both half Targaryen.
So glad Ghost isn't dead. Now we need Ramsay to die I hope either Sansa or Theon does it.
Well, we do need three dragon riders. Why not Tyrion?
Yes, Ramsey better die soon.
I do think he'll be the third rider. I just hope it's on his own merit. GRRM made a big deal about him liking dragons in the first book and he's read everything he can about them. The interest is setting him up as a rider and could also be setting him up as a Targaryen. Just because I hope he's not doesn't mean it isn't probably heading in that direction.

For me, it was just why did we spend so much time on Jon snow, speculating about his lineaage, making him a badass, if he was going to be killed in such a stupid way?

This is where I am. Some locks of hair and magic words and boom back from the dead? Why him?
And has Twig face lady been around before? I sorta forgot about the Bran story line.
CEP will appreciate this line of the EW recap: "Enter Bernie Sparrow, who comes in to chat with Jaime and spout his usual rhetoric about how his impoverished followers are ready to rise up to overthrow the elite. "
I said this to DH. I'm going to call Bernie Bros "Sparrows" from now on.

Sent from my SM-G900P using proboards
yes. She is the one who magic bombed the walker skeletons when they got to the tree.

Because Jon had to be revived and they are the easiest people to have do it. If we learn what we expect to learn from the tower of joy stuff Jon has to live. Him 'dying' frees him from his vows allowing him to take the next steps. But if he dies he has to be brought back. Melissandre and Davos are the best bets for being able to do it and having the info needed to think of trying it.

I get why Jon has to live. I just think Davos asking Mel to bring him back is so out of character for him. He hates her. Have we seen any interaction between the two of them since Shireen died? I don't know why he would all of a sudden trust her, especially with Stannis and Shireen dead.
Also, as far as Davos is concerned, Jon is just another good leader. He doesn't know anything about his parents. They already have the wildings back and have defeated Thorne. It would have made more sense to have Edd or another ally of Jon's approach Mel.
In the books, Davos is not at the wall and Melissandre, Shireen and Selyse do not go with Stannis. There is also more emphasis in the books on the visions Melissandre has of Jon Snow, and I think that is why she resurrects him, which makes a lot more sense. But since Davos is at the wall and Melissandre burned Shireen already and Stannis failed, the way it played out in the show probably makes the most sense. I think Davos knows about the others (in the show because he's the one who convinces Stannis to go help), and thinks Jon Snow is the only hope to unite the north and the wildlings to fight that threat.
It would have made more sense to have Edd or another ally of Jon's approach Mel.
True, but Davos is the one who has the most experience with and insight into what she can do and also the one who would be most likely to convince her since she was all depressed and done or whatever.
I think Davos makes sense in the context of the show and who he's been all along. He's supported Stannis and is super loyal, but Stannis is gone. He also has access to info and a perspective that makes the most sense. The others obviously support this path, because they too realize Jon Snow is the only one who can probably get the Wildlings and the Northerners to work together. He knows Melissandre the best and despite thinking her god is pretty much garbage, he knows she can do shit. I think you have to take into account who Davos has been and what he has learned through the past 5 seasons. At first I was a little, eh... but then I thought about it and in the show, I think him taking point makes the most sense. I also think it makes sense that he is invested in this.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how excited I was that they are doing flashbacks!!!! I know some people speculated about that.
I am like this about the Tower of Joy...
Also I didn't expect to be so verklempt over baby Ned, Benjen and Lyanna. They were so happy! Like the baby Starks in the first episode of the series. I want Benjen back, too. WHERE ARE YOU BENJEN?

Also, help me with this whole Greyjoy thing. The long lost brother shows up to kill his brother and then disappears? Is the brother in the books? Is he bad or good or what?

This is Theon's uncle. He is Balon's (Theon's dad) younger brother. This happens earlier in the books that he dies, but they basically cut the Iron Islands out of a few seasons and added some different things for Yara. Like she doesn't stage a rescue of Theon. I think instead of seeing Theon be tortured by Ramsay, he disappears, you get Iron Islands stuff like this and then Theon shows back up as Reek (in the books you don't get a first hand account of the progression/torture).
There are 4 Greyjoy brothers: Balon (Theon and Yara's dad), Euron, Victarion and the priest dude who told Yara she needed a kingsmoot/queensmoot. They are all really terrible and boring so I am glad we missed out on most of the Iron Islands. I think we'll get the kingsmoot/queensmoot, but Theon might show up there? IDK.
In the books, all the Greyjoys are pretty terrible besides Asha (Yara) and Theon. It's pretty clear one of them will end up hooking Dany up with some ships to get to Westeros but I am not sure how that will play out in the show.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Davos understands the threat of the white walkers and knows that Jon Snow is the only one who could unite the Wildlings and Northerners to fight them. Plus Stannis saw something in him and Davos is carrying that on.
Davos has always been super pragmatic too. Like, he's a total Stannis fanboy and is loyal, but he sees the big picture and has a decent amount of common sense. He's motivated by his loyalty to Stannis but also by what he knows is going on, unlike others who are completely tunnel vision about their own motivations and ambitions or whatever.
At first, she says she doesn’t have the power to bring anyone back but knows a guy. NAWL. We ain’t got time for that. You better look in your magical Barney bag and pull out some tricks.
Davos tells her “I’m not asking the lord of fire for help. I’m asking the woman who showed me that miracles exist.” Come through with the TEDTalk!

That's why I don't like it - because of his practicality.
Anyway, my theory is that Melisandre failed and some other powers brought Jon back to life. My hatred for the red woman may be clouding my judgment.

I also hate Melissandre. She's the worst. I hope she goes away now, but probably won't.
I am honestly more excited about the Tower of Joy flashback next week than pretty much anything. I guess I always took it as a foregone conclusion that Jon Snow wouldn't stay dead, but I am far more invested in the culmination of who Jon Snow's parents are. Probably because I immediately keyed into something being off about his parentage at the beginning of the first book, and my husband, who had read the first book before me, acted like I was nuts when I had just started reading and was like... "what is UP with Jon Snow's parents? Ned Stark is not his father, I bet his sister is Jon's mother." He was like, wtf are you talking about?!
I like being right when it comes to MH probably more than is healthy. I NEED THAT VALIDATION.
Ramsay killing Roose was dumb for a variety of reasons, but I think it's because they hadn't laid the ground work for the North politically that exists in the books at the time of Ramsay's wedding, who all is there, the various backstories, etc. So this will be the catalyst that is the fall of the Boltons and the fracturing of the North.
