DH and I are moving to Seattle at the end of September. I am leaving a place where I've developed some good friends that are in a similar life stage...married, no kids but thinking about it soon or actively working on it. We like to have happy hours (and the occasional all-afternoon/evening/night hangout usually involving some bar hopping) or go to sporting events, play trivia, or chill on the back deck. I met these people through work.
As I move away from a significantly smaller city to a much larger one I'm really nervous that I won't make any friends. Given that people in Seattle have MUCH longer commutes that what I've got where I am currently, I just can't see that many people doing the impromptu happy hour thing that frequently.
So how did you go about making some friends that you like to do stuff with every once and a while? Especially if you don't go to church and don't have any kids?
I hang out with people I work with, people I'm on a tri team with. I remember you said you guys are moving to West Seattle! The offer still stands if you would like to meet and I could show you around! I'm sure the other ladies on the board won't mind a west Seattle get together! Dh and I live to go out and have a beer or two!
Hi! Depending on what you do for a living - you could find a professional organization and meet people through there. Or try MeetUp.com - there are local groups for all sorts of interests.
We have board gtgs probably every 6-8 weeks. Work is a good bet too.
I don't know if it's my group of friends, but hh are a big deal around here. We always make time for it, even with a commute. And sometimes I wait out traffic at hh.
yup, the board is a great place to meet people. all of us originally met on the boards..either TK, TN, or TB, and many of us have become real-friends. other than here, i would say work is your best bet. most of our friends are from work... also try out making friends with neighbors.
Yep, jump in here and join in some gtgs! We are a friendly bunch and we enjoy getting to know new people.
HHs are a pretty big deal around here, for sure. My CWs and I don't go all that often, but I always see big groups of coworkers flocking to HH in the afternoon. My H's team will go to HH usually once a week.
