Trying my 1st class today. What can I expect? Is it just like a regular ballet class? I did ballet for 16 year and at one point was in a dance company. How sore will I be tomorrow?
No, it's not like a regular ballet class, it's quite a bit more intense and fitness-focused. There will be some plies and leg raises at the bar, but not the same feet/hip positions as ballet. Plus there's a lot that is not similar to ballet at all. You'll be sore tomorrow, but it's a good sore.
It is a lot of repetitive moments, you do the same thing over and over again. You usually use some weights (2-3lbs) but get SO sore, a good sore. There are some ballet type moments but it isn't similar to a ballet class.

Ditto the others- it's nothing like a ballet class. Think of your ballet warm ups of plies at the barre...then multiply it by 100 and add weights and resistance. You will be sore tomorrow! I'm sore today after my class last night, and I was a dancer for 12 years.
So fun! What studio are you trying? It's really nothing like actual ballet. I've found most studios follow a similar format:
Warm-up (usually cardio moves and then some planks or push ups) Arm work with weights Thigh/quad work (usually at the barre) Butt work (I refuse to call it your "seat" lol, also usually at the barre) Abs Cool down/stretch
Whether or not I am sore the next day depends on the class and how hard I work. It's one of those classes where you can REALLY challenge yourself or just kind of half ass it. So if your muscles aren't burning, sink deeper into the position.
It hurts but it's so addictive. I try and go at least four times/week and love trying out new studios.
It's a new studio that just opened in my small town. They're doing free barre classes all week. They also do yoga and Pilates. I've been dying for a studio that offers barre or Pilates reformer (not mat) to open up here.
Not that you need it but have you noticed any weightloss with doing barre regularly? Or at least slimming if not pounds posts.
I'm currently on the second round of a 28 day challenge with barre3. I was a dancer as a kid, but nothing serious. I am still sore after some classes. But good sore, the kind of sore that you enjoy the next day. Have a blast! It's addicting
sorry i totally missed this! i'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your class. i haven't been as often as i usually go, but i'm hoping to get back into the routine after my half on sunday.
i haven't noticed weight loss, but i'm definitely more toned since i started classes.

Not Jenny, but I've been barre-ing for a year and a half now and have noticed a big difference in muscle definition / toning. Regular planks, pushups, and burning quads / butt really do work!
