My college crush is running for political office! I immediately texted my college BFF and we agreed that he should pose for campaign photos with no shirt on.
Not to bring down the thread, but I found out this afternoon that my uncle died late last night. He was sick with cancer and had just entered hospice on Monday. He went peacefully with his wife at his side. All 4 of his kids had been there with him earlier in the night. He was so joyous, kind hearted, positive, and funny. He invested in everyone around him and believed in Jesus Christ with all his heart and it showed in everything he did. I'm so sad that he is gone and I'm especially sad for his children, one who is only 2 years older than me with 2 small kids. I just ache for them.
So now my parents, 3 siblings, and I are working out the details for all of us, including some of our kids, to fly down to Florida for the funeral.
I'm having a rough solo parenting night. But now that the boys are nicely playing together and I'm just watching dd in the bath and I had a beer with dinner I feel a lot better, lol.
Today at DS2's preschool mothers day tea one of the teachers read the book A Mother's Lap and she got to reallly choked up and almost couldn't finish the book. Her oldest kid is graduating high school in a few weeks and it's hitting her hard. It was so sweet.
Also, we ate dinner on the deck tonight and when DS was done, he went down to the backyard to play on his play set. A minute later he was standing with his shorts around his ankles peeing in the grass.
Our house is rural so it isn't a big deal here, I'm just worried he is going to try this at daycare or some other public place. But it was funny in the moment.
Some joyousness from our house tonight: V decided to make his sandwich bread into a birthday cake. His french fries were candles, naturally. We did his Doc McStuffins puzzle, and his new word for hippopotamus is "hippoh-pa-TOManus".
In happy news, mom finally went to a doctor, they gave her an inhaler prescription, so hopefully she can kick this cough.
chilerellanos those pictures are beautiful. Your girls looks so vibrant and happy. I'm so glad that you're oldest found her niche and seems to be doing so well!
DS had a hair cut this afternoon that H took him to and then took him to soccer so I only had to pick DD up from daycare.
Because it was just the two of us and there was nothing to rush home to DD and I went to Kendra Scott to spend my birthday gift certificate and decided to patio happy hour at a nearby restaurant. We had the best time eating appetizers and I had champagne. She was in the best mood and waived to all the shoppers who walked by.
Took DD to the zoo today to see the new penguin exhibit. She liked the penguins well enough, but OMG she will not stop talking about the giraffes. Giraffe big! Eat grass! Play toys! So tall giraffe! Giraffe tank! (They were inside, so she decided it looked like they were in a fish tank - hence, giraffe tank) We sat on a bench watching the giraffes for probably 30 minutes.
I love when they get that sense of wonder about something they've never see before. Objectively, giraffes are amazing! DS was the same way when we took him to the zoo, except with the sea lions. The exhibit has a glass panel so you can see them swimming underwater. DS and I sat on the floor in front of the glass for probably 30 minutes.
A few months ago, H started feeling like he needed to do more for the community, so he decided to volunteer somewhere. Tonight is his first night as a teacher's aid at an adult ESOL class. I'm so proud of him for doing it!
so cool! One of my friends taught at an adult ESOL school in Arlington (Clarendon maybe?) for a couple of years and until she could get a job in the school district. She had the best stories from her time there, it was really rewarding.
I drove thru del taco after the gym pretty much so I could order a kids meal with milk, since we are out of milk for my coffee tomorrow. Guess what they forgot to give me? Humph.
DH comes home tomorrow! That means I survived two weeks of solo parenting!
I started cleaning the house so DH doesn't come home to a disaster, but then I realized I have been solo parenting for two weeks. DH can clean the fucking kitchen lol
word for word.
my mom was all "you have to pick up the place before H gets back"...i was like, ummm no I don't!
