Here are the facts: I'm an old. (In my 40's). And I have about 15 extra pounds I've been holding on to for several years now. It really is no joke that it gets harder when you get older.
I just can't seem to get myself back on track like I used to be able to. I have to say it used to be relatively easy to maintain my weight because I enjoy exercising and generally speaking eat ok to pretty good. But lately it's been so damn hard. I have been clothes shopping this week for occasions on Saturday and Sunday and it sucked. I just feel bad and out of shape and the extra 15 lbs seem 'softer'.
I get overwhelmed when I can't just lose it by myself because when I start thinking about low sugar, count calories, count macros, low carb, high fat, low fat, paleo, etc etc I can't keep it all straight.
But, since I've gotten to a point of needed something specific to follow, I thought this might be the best place to ask for advice.
Also will take suggestions on workouts - my plan is to lift heavy and throw in some cardio.
I tried to lose on my own and couldn't do it. I joined Weight Watchers and have been pretty successful, 18 pounds in 14 weeks. Is that something you would consider?

Welcome! I am in my 40s, too, and what has worked for me more than anything has been cleaning up my diet - staying away from processed foods as much as possible, sticking to lots of veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats, and keeping my portion sizes in control. I've had the best luck following 21 Day Fix from Beachbody. Others do really well using My Fitness Pal after figuring out their specific macros. As far as exercise, find activities that you enjoy. A mixture of cardio and strength training has worked best for me.
If it seems overwhelming, start with a small change that you can make and add on from there.
And don't be afraid to come here! This is an amazing place for advice and encouragement.

Yeah, I would definitely consider it. Are you doing the new program? Online or in person?

I am also old, 41, and struggling with my weight. I maintained for two years and now I'm up a few pounds despite lots of running and lifting. I like weight watchers and just taking it slowly. It may take me three more months to lose three pounds--but I'll do it. My goal weight is reasonable but I've plateaued and I love to eat. Just chipping away...
