Last year I threw a big 30th birthday party, this year he just wants the two of us to do something. He enjoys doing fancy dinner, but he loves/prefers activities and doing things. I've taken him rock climbing and planned an outdoor laser tag party (thanks to @uwhuskygirl) before. In Hawaii he really liked the zipline I planned and I think there's one around here? Although we just did that, so I'm not sure if he'd want to do it again now.
We both really enjoy surprises, so I'd like to try to do something fun/different, but I'm running out of ideas... help?
The zipline is one I was wondering about since he did like the one in Hawaii, have you tried it?
I think the cruise would be fun, I'm not sure if it's enough of an 'activity' for him. Guys, this is one thing where he and I are so different. He's such a physical person and I'm like "tea party?" lol
Does he like shows? I love the traveling Broadway shows. And a super awesome dinner? seattle.broadway.com/
He got REALLY into Les Mis and realized he didn't hate all musicals, but other than that, not really which is ironic because I'm very involved in theater, lol. He did like Phantom, but in general he's not a big theater person.
What about doing one of those escape rooms? You get locked in a room and have to solve puzzles. I've heard it's tons of fun.
there is a long hilarious story about how he tried to do this for my birthday and it was an epic fail He eventually did it another time with friends (I couldn't go) and did love it!

so I started looking at ziplines further out of the city and also came across rafting! neither of us have ever done that, so now I'm looking at some of those too...

Not sure when you are doing it but if it is summer you should look up floating the river too. So awesome.

I was going to do it in June... I'll look up the floating thing too!

LOOOVE rafting although I'm not sure how much my shoulder can do it anymore. It was always a super-awesome thing when we got to drive down to the Rogue River and do either rafting or the mail boat tours (I grew up in S.OR).
Rafting is a blast. What month? We have done a few around here.
June!
I would think that is still early enough to do the Wenatchee. It is supposed to be a ton of fun. We are going in a couple of weeks and I can let you know then. We have also done the White Salmon and it is a blast, there is also beer and what not in that area if that interests him.

This may be further than you want to go, but you could go down to the Oregon sand dunes and rent a dune buggy.
Depending on how active you want to be you could hike up to Camp Muir on Rainier.
Or go paragliding out near Issaquah
Or bike through the old train tunnel and down the Iron Horse Trail from Snoqualmie Pass to Rattlesnake Lake. There is a shuttle so you can park your car at the lake, and then they'll shuttle you up to the Pass for you to bike back down. It's a GORGEOUS trail - all slightly downhill. compassoutdooradventures.com/snoqualmie-tunnel-bike-shuttle/

Oh man, I remember doing this on a family vacation one time, it was so much fun! I think it would be a little bit bigger of a trip that we'll do this time, but I'm totally saving that idea.
