I took Xander to the pedi this morning and he got 2 rounds of nebulizer, but is still retracting and breathing rapidly. He's now on prednisolone, has a mild ear infection, and they think he might be developing pneumonia. He got x-rays and neither the doctor nor the radiologist were sure about the pneumonia. So we're heading back to the pharmacy this afternoon to pick up antibiotics. Apparently my sicko was sicker than I thought, even though he was still rambunctious this morning. Hopefully I can go back to work tomorrow?
Another question: we now have a nebulizer. When do we use it? They said up to every 4-6 hours, but how do you tell?
---------------
Xander clearly has a wheeze this morning and gets easily out of breath but it doesn't appear to be slowing him down. He's running around getting into everything, demanding out of reach toys, basically acting like his usual self. He doesn't have a fever. Do I send him to daycare today after the doctor? Do I keep him home for the wheeze? He's not resting/sleeping in spite of being up most of the night coughing and moaning and grinding his teeth. I'm pretty sure his molars are bugging him and he's getting over a cold.
I'd use it every four if he's wheezing. When B was about 8 moths old, he had bad wheezing and was on albuterol and prendasone. I would go into his room at night when it was really bad and put the blower thing (he liked that better than the mask) through the slats of the crib so hr could breathe it in without waking. I hope they help!
I think it's going around. Charlie was in children's last week from a cold that got her wheezy. She's still using her inhaler (albuterol). I wish they would just tell our insurance to pay for a nebulizer already.

I hope he feels better soon!
Poor C! I'm sorry she had this crud too!
Genevieve was wheezy Saturday but not so much that she needed anything but rest, extra liquids, etc. so I'm pretty sure she gave it to Xander.
He actually slept decently, all things considered. We made it until 5am before he started tossing and turning, then got himself and me up for more medicine. After nebulizer at 8pm, humidifier plus Vicks seemed to help somewhat overnight. But night weaning is out the window, which is a royal bummer.
We did the nebulizer again this morning which seems to leave him wired. Or the ability to breath better left him more wired? I was hoping to go back to bed, so that's too bad so far.

Poor guy. I hope he gets well soon. Our pedi told us how often she wanted is to use the neb. When he was first having breathing issues and the chest X-rays checked out it was every 4 hours for a week. Charlie's now on a different medicine that he has to take for a month. He has about two weeks left.

Oh and when Charlie was on albuterol he would get so hyper. You may even notice an increase in appetite. After about a week at every 4 hours we gave three times a day. Def let the pedi know if he doesn't get any better. I remember Charlie had just finished his albuterol a few days before his 4 month we'll check. She was observing him and ordered several more days of treatments and to call her if it didn't go away. That's when she put him on budeosonide for a month. It's made a world of difference.
browneyedhunni85, your poor C! I hope once he's done with medicine he stays healthy for a long while.
We have a follow up appointment tomorrow afternoon if he's not back to normal. Looking like we'll be attending it at this point. The prednisolone does seem to be helping, but steroid rage plus toddler rage isn't my favorite. 3 more days of it, plus 4 more days of antibiotics if all goes well.
