I'm going back and forth on this sentence for a panel. In which version is the comma placement most correct? A. Roanoke is situated at the intersection of six divisions (or regions) of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company: Shenandoah, Radford, Pocahontas, Scioto, Norfolk, and after acquiring the Virginian Railway in 1959, New River. B. Roanoke is situated at the intersection of six divisions (or regions) of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company: Shenandoah, Radford, Pocahontas, Scioto, Norfolk and, after acquiring the Virginian Railway in 1959, New River.
PS Oxford comma 4lyf! You'll pry that out of my cold, dead hands.
Roanoke is situated at the intersection of six divisions (or regions) of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company: Shenandoah, Radford, Pocahontas, Scioto, Norfolk and New River, after acquiring the Virginian Railway in 1959.
I hate oxford commas, so if you really want it you can add it in before the and. :-)
Roanoke is situated at the intersection of six divisions (or regions) of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company: Shenandoah, Radford, Pocahontas, Scioto, Norfolk, New River (post-acquisition in 1959).
Roanoke is situated at the intersection of six divisions (or regions) of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company: Shenandoah, Radford, Pocahontas, Scioto, Norfolk, New River (post-acquisition in 1959).
I like this option but if you have to go with one of the first two then B.
