I prefer green olives. There are certain darker ones that I'm ok with, kind of an iridescent purple/black shade, I don't know what those are called. I don't care for most black olives though.
I only developed the taste for olives in recent years as an adult but there are some that I like a lot.
I spent time in Croatia where they eat a lot of green olives so that's where I really got to liking them. I think if I spent time in Greece or Spain, I might develop fondness for varieties there as well. I would need to spend time in Greece in order to see if I like real, fresh Kalamata olives, for example.
I also love good olive oil. Staple of the kitchen.
I love black olives, can eat a few Kalamata, and hate green olives. I find the green ones far too tart I think. I'm really not sure because tart is not the flavor I mean, but I cannot think of the right wording.
Love both but I prefer green or kalamata to black out of the can
Yeah, Growing up I only knew about black from a can and green from a jar - loved the black (who doesn't love black olives you can stick on your fingers) and hated the green ones with pimentos inside. Now that I know about this whole other world of olives I'm not a big fan of the black canned ones anymore. I even like the green ones better.
I don't even know where to post an intro here! I was on TK/TN/TB since 2003, mostly local boards. I was m_and_m.

The worldsong is a colorless dirge without the differences that distinguish us, and it is that difference that should be celebrated not condemned." -Ani Difranco
I hate all olives, which DH constantly tells me should not be possible since I've given birth to two half-Greek children. Apparently that was supposed to make me crave them or something.
I don't care for either. I can choke down tapenade made of black olives if I have to, but it's the one thing we tell restaurants we don't like if we're doing a tasting menu.
I love all olives now. As a kid, the black ones from the can were my favorite and I did not like green ones. I would put one on each finger and eat them off. I also know how to cut them into bunnies!
