I'm maybe 20% into this book, and I'm not sure about it. Whenever I get in my car and start listening to it, I find that I want to shut it off. Maybe it's just that I enjoy listening to Hamilton more than a book right now, but that's all I ever want to listen to in the car (or at all, actually). So I guess I don't know if it's this particular book, or just that I need an audiobook break.
Has anyone read it? I've heard all these reports about how good it is and how suspenseful and original and everything else, but I'm honestly not finding any of that to be the case so far. Should I stick with it?
When I read it, I knew absolutely nothing about it. I liked it a lot and found it both creepy and engrossing. But I think pretty much every book that gets a ton of hype suffers from it.
I was very disappointed in it. There were times where it was suspenseful but overall it did not live up to the hype. Not even close. It was more cheesy for me than horror and suspense. I don't know about going forward with it. I'm in the same boat with a different book and I think I'm going to dump it.
Gah, I hate a disappointing ending! I think I just need a break from audiobooks generally, and I think I'll quit on this one. Thanks!
I listened to it on audiobook and felt that in some ways it was better that way because it was often as I was falling asleep with my eyes closed, so it felt true to the story.
I considered it about average; entertaining, but not something I'd go out of my way to make work if I weren't into it.
I read it in one day, so it was good enough to keep my attention but I agree with others who said it did not live up to the hype. I liked it well enough, but it isn't something I'm raving about and recommending to friends.
Aww, bummer. I almost at the same point, I think, and was wondering if it got better. I don't like knowing nothing about what's going on. And I don't particularly enjoy when we spend so much time in the past while being blind (har har!) in the present. I'll keep going since it's not particularly long, but I'm not looking forward to the disappointing ending!
I thought it was average, meaning I didn't feel like giving up on it but definitely didn't think it lived up to the hype.
I listened to the audiobook and think that made it better. A lot of the time was in bed, falling asleep, with my eyes closed. That helped with the suspense.
