Requirements: -nothing that ends in a vowel sound -nothing that starts with a P -nothing that has any double Ls
Names I like but can't use: -Claire (H shot down) -Jane (H shot down) -Piper (not with our last name) -Eleanor nn Nora (not the nn with our last name) -Ellen (not with our last name) -Grace (too churchy) -Katherine nn Kate (um, it's my name but I would use it if it wasn't LOL)
Names I'm considering: -Elizabeth (H says it's too fancy compared to Lucy lol) -Alice (trying too hard?) -Abigail (meh?) -Molly (isn't this a drug now??) - this is my issue. I want to name this kid Margaret nn Mollie and H is all DRUG CULTURE. BUT I heard the cool kids are snorting cacao these days so Molly is passe.
I love Alice and Elizabeth. What about Elise, Laurel, Vivian, Violet, Blythe, Beatrice, Charlotte, Hazel
I LOVE Anne, but feel like I would always need to clarify, "THAT'S ANNE WITH AN E."
Anne is awesome and very underused as a first name these days. Anne is a classic and relatively common spelling, and I don't think specifying with an e would be that big a deal. I have a common first name with at least two common spellings (plus several alternative spellings), and having to specify which spelling I use has never bothered me.
My name is Elizabeth and I've always loved it. I go by Liz. It's strong and professional. I don't know why people always try to get creative with nicknames for Elizabeth.
My first is Lucille (but we call her Lucy) and we also have an Italian last name.
Our second we were so sure would be a boy and we were going to name him Alexander. But then surprise it was a girl so we went through a bunch of names and ended up feminizing it and naming her Alexandra and calling her Lexi. . It ends in a vowel though.
Other names we had considered (a lot end with a vowel just because a lot of girls names do) Vivian Emilia (nn Emmy) Adriana Evelyn (nn Evie) Helen or Helena Caroline Juliette Alexis
Why is Alice trying too hard? I really like it, along with names like Helen and Louise that are classic, but not as popular these days.
Otherwise, my tastes fall squarely in "ends in -a" territory. Lydia is what I am convinced we should have named DS had he been a girl. (Although we let DD pick the girl's name from my list of five and she did not choose Lydia.)
I love Anne and I think it would be beautiful with your name combo and also goes well with Lucy.
I see what you mean about Alice being a little theme-y with Lucy. It's a lovely name though. I gave both my kids very Scandinavian names so I'm not one to judge though.
I like Abigail. Elizabeth is a bit of a mouthful with your MN LN.
