Hang in there! Obviously you've made it to the final round, and obviously they like you or the recruiter wouldn't be staying in touch so well.
Anecdote: I interviewed for my MBA internship with UA in mid-Feb. They dicked around for five weeks afterward. When I started getting emails about "we'll have a decision by X date," and "just wanted to let you know we're still deciding," it was about two weeks until I finally got THE CALL.
Given that she touched base with you last Friday at 5, I would imagine she's aware of how stressful this is for the candidate, and she will be in touch by this Friday at 5.
For my current job, I interviewed on July 9 in person. Got the request for references on July 14. Offer in hand July 17 (on a Friday at 5:13 west coast time). I was super anxious during this time, and between submitting references and offer, I was texting constantly with my references like, "did you talk to them yet? OMG did you tell them how great I am?" Maybe it could ease your mind to check in with one or two of your references (btw, five references, what the hell is that) and see if they've connected with the recruiter.
I have been in your position like a billion times, and it never gets easier. So many good vibes being sent your way!

Lurker here, but when my H got his current job he interviewed mid-April and didn't get an offer until mid-June. Longest 2 months EVER. It was also a huge company, lots of departments, etc.

I don't have anything to add, except that I know you deserve a good piece of job luck. You're smart, capable, compassionate, and have had just shit job luck. So, my fingers are crossed that you not only get this, but that it's where you will be happy and thrive.

There's still hope!!
I mean, I appreciate the post of solidarity, but dammit! I don't want to wait that long! haha.
Haha you will NOT be waiting that long! If they've already checked references, and you have the recruiter in contact with you like that, you'll for sure be hearing soon!
I wish I had a better suggestion about what to do while you're going crazy waiting.
I don't know if you recall the company I work for? It's also a huge company. I got laid off in December and re-hired last week. The interview process was quick, but everything else was slow.
Applied for the position in November. Contacted in March asking if I was still interested in the position. Interviewed in April. Started in May.
Long and slow process. Big companies are notoriously slow because there's so much red tap and processes to follow. If one person is on vacation, it can slow the whole process down.
I've never had a job move fast. With my current company I applied 10/30, first interview the day before Thanksgiving, 2nd interview 12/11 and then was offered the job right before Xmas. When I made an internal move, it took them 4 months from when the job was posted to when I was hired.

Hang in there. In my experience it's always a game of hurry up and wait. I was once told they would make a decision by the end of next week since they needed someone to start asap. 2 months later, that's right, 2 months, I was called for another interview with the top boss. no explanations at all.
I hope they get their stuff together before the weekend though. Wishing you lots of luck and sending good vibes your way.
Good luck! My husband works for a big, international corporation and if I remember correctly he interviewed in January, didn't start till mid March. As everyone else said, they always move slowwwww, despite how fast a role needs to be filled or how quickly the direct manager hiring wants to make it move. HR and a few levels above all usually need approval. Sending quick hiring thoughts your way!!

I know it's hard to wait. But getting open calendar time with a VP can be tough and take a few days. Then there's the holiday. It's so frustrating but normal.
I Interviewed on Oct 31 and didn't start until December. I didn't get the off until about a month later and that was with meeting with multiple levels of management.

When I got my job, I applied in October, didn't hear anything and forgot about it. In the following January, I was called for an interview and the entire process of background checks and etc took until almost April for me to start. Longest 6 months ever. Lol
